Fair enough, the diet must have been modified; does it now resemble 'The South Beach diet'?
When my father was on this plan he was living on meat, and cheese. No fruit or veg. I was very concerned."On behalf of teachers, I'd like to dedicate this award to Michael Gove and I mean dedicate in the Anglo Saxon sense which means insert roughly into the anus of." My hero, Mr Steer.0 -
My husband and I did this this diet and both of us lost lots of weight. Sorry can't think of how you could do this cheaply. Would do it again, but we both suffered big time with consipation :-/
good luck

Another Atkins fan here, the OH and I lost around 4-5 stones between us and compeltely changed our eating habits as a result. We now eat a modified version of Atkins / low carb / low GI that is a bit more LBYM. We tend to focus on filling up with veggies and salad rather than large amounts of meat. Tinned fish is a cheaper way of getting protein, as are less fashionable fish like mackerel (smoked mackerel salad - yum!). We also now eat a fair amount of beans / grains - chickpeas, lentils and the like are good alternative filler-uppers. I think our current diet is more low GI than Atkins - but unlike Atkins you do have to keep an eye on portion sizes when you introduce more carbs in. Certainly the appetite reducing qualities of protein and fats help reduce the cost when you see the portion sizes shrink!
It seems crazy that eating food that is not processed, that is good quality and that is basically straightforward un-mucked around food should be so expensive compared to highly processed crap and cheap carby fillers.0 -
I lost about 8 stone on Atkins ish a few years ago, I sort of modified it to suit my own lifestyle and found it great.
Another site you might find useful is

Surf around on there, there's a lot of info
There's also a low carb in the uk group on yahoo.. I think it's got - between each word, that was a great source of support for me at the time
