Dropped George off at the vets for his Xray, will be picking him up at 6:45 and seeing the vet then - fingers crossed all healed ok and the boy can be out of his cage.....

Got George at one vet and little baby from Lucy at another... sigh... HOpe both are ok, fingers crossed :(

PIcked up George from the vets, his leg is healing fine, he does not have to be on cage rest any more but needs to be in one room for the next 2 weeks and then allowed around for the next 4 weeks. But I live in a flat on one level so letting him walk around the whole flat really.

So this is a bit of good news after the bad news about little Thomas this morning :(
  • That's great news GR - sure George will be delighted to be out the cage......

NOtice the SOCK they left him when they shaved his leg/side...
  • Fantastic to see him outside again :D, poor wee lamb's coped so well.

I'm afraid I was chuckling at the sock they've left - maybe to stop him getting cold feet!:D

    Found this some time ago:
To help strengthen the connective tissue surrounding the knee joint and repair injury to the cartilage of the knee, give your cat Vitamin C, chondroitin sulfate, and glucosamine sulfate.

    On here:

    http://www.petmedsonline.org/luxating-patella-kneecap-in-cats.html

When I spoke to George's vet - he said that George does not need any of it...

Can anyone pls let me know if cats can have normal human vitamin C and what the correct dose for 3/7 kg cat would be? I give Zara Ester C which is a form of vit C, those are 1000mg tablets and she takes 2 per day, no idea about dosage for a cat?

Also, where can I find chondroitin sulfate?

Glucosamine - got seraquin for cats and he is getting that but the other 2 if anyone knows? Thanks a lot.
  • When our boy had his teeth done (he had shattered one on a crunchie and they decided they may as well do the lot as he was there), they must have given him a drip on one side and inserted a cannula on the other.

They had clipped around his front feet just at the right height for him to look like he was wearing white wellie boots (or yeti boots) until it all grew back.

At least, I assume they didn't just do it for fun because he was soft enough to sit there and let them sculpt his fur when fully conscious :)
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.

I did not want George to have his second op so soon after the first but his other leg started really playing up so booked him for the op and taking him to the vets for 8am ....

Fingers crossed the little guy will be ok - another 6 weeks in a cage (one week in a lampshade) then 2 weeks on "room rest" and then 4 weeks on "flat rest" so total of 12 weeks he is going to miss out on his life.. plus the 8 weeks since the first op - 20 weeks in total, that is 5 months :(

JUst dropped George off at the vets and will be waiting for a phone call when his surgery is over at some point in the afternoon.

George is insured with Argos Platinum, 7000 per year which anyone would have thought should be enough for a cat, that was te best cover I could find at the time anyway.

His bill so far was 4436 and todays operation estimated at 1700-2000. He will also need an Xray 6 weeks later which is about 400 from what I remember and... the 7k for this year (till June2012) will be almost gone...

I just hope the op goes ok and that nothing will be wrong with this little boy for a while following the op
