computers for low income families???

Not sure if I am in the right place and I appologise if I'm not!
I am wondering if anyone can help me?
Last year there was a government scheme to help low income families have home computers. Does anyone know if this is still going on or if it will happen again?
We recieve various benefits ( dla, esa, ct, hb), my oh had a horrible accident last year and is pretty much unable to walk atm and in a great deal of pain. Due to long term illness, I can only work part time hours (my oncologist would rather I gave up....but my sanity needs it!!) Our home computer was very old and has given up the ghost, we have had it repaired 3 times over the last 2 years, but now it has had it
I can only find schemes for uni/college students, but I am not the most computer/internet literate person you are likely to meet!!!;)
Thanks for any help

It got abused to living hell and has quite rightly come to an end. I got sick to death of the long stream of dole wallers knocking on the door who would rather sacrifice their kids education and sell the laptops for a hundred quid than see their kids have a fighting chance. There were tons of them on Ebay as well.

Hi,
Nobody seems to be talking about the fact that the laptop or computer comes with this(copied from the website):
- Microsoft Windows 7 operating software
- Microsoft software for documents, emails, messaging, pictures and more
- Security software from Microsoft to keep you safe online
- Accessibility software * to make it easier for anyone to see, hear and use a computer
- All inclusive, no subscriptions
- All pre-installed and ready to use
Does anyone have any opinion or information?
Also, has anyone actually bought a laptop from getonlineathome.org and what did they think of it?
It is currently £169 for someone who is eligible for the lower price.
Thanks

I think that's a bit harsh. This board says its supposed to be about helping people not about judging them. Anyone can end up on benefits - they get sick, they have relationship breakdowns, they lose their job. It can happen to anyone.justlooking2012 wrote: »With all the benefits you get you could do something drastic and buy your own one.0 -

The software is a complete waste of money* and adds nothing to the value. All that software comes with any computer that is sold with Windows 7 or Windows 8 - they explicitly do not mention Microsoft Office so that will not be included. The hard drive is also ridiculously small (useable, but no point paying that.)
You'd be better off buying a new laptop for £275 to £320 or if you insist on paying £169 just see what you can find on ebay (that company sells second-hand computers anyway).
Better spending £275 on a computer that can last three to five years rather than wasting £169 on something that might not even run iPlayer.
(* wrong phrasing. Not a waste of money, just doesn't add any real value.)0 -
I think the Op was referring to the free ones and someone has mistaken that for v the ones you can get cheap. I have one from getonline@home is brilliant. Paid 199 for it and it does the job. They are refurbished. The free ones were good if needed, at the time we got one and my children loved it. We were in need and grateful x the original post was in 2011!!!!! Lol xThe feeling i got when i confirmed my place studying criminology at Exeter Uni was brilliant!!!!!
The pride my children told me they had in me was even better!!!!! # setting positive example to children is OUTSTANDING!!!! !:grouphug::grouphug::smileyhea:smileyhea:smileyhea:smileyhea:smileyhea:smileyhea:smileyhea0 -

If you don't like reading this section of MSE Forums (as you said in another of your useless posts) why don't you stop reading them and then you would not post your sarcastic, one liner, comments and keep them to yourself.
You are sure NOT an asset to the guys on here that need help.
Are you a TROLL - Ugh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :eek:0 -
Try your local Freecycle website.
There are frequently computers given away on our local one. You can even put a wanted request on."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0
