H, this is the Daily Thread for Monday 19th September. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well
Morning Everyone and Welcome all the new posters :hello:
Don't ask why I am up at this time, just woke up, normally do not see 2 7 o'clocks in a day, let alone 6 o'clock.
Yesterday was nice DNeice and the DGNeice & DGNephew came down in the morning, and our 9 year old DGNeice stayed with us until we took her back at 6pm. As HH said I realised she was not getting much attention from me as her 2 year old brother is really full of it and very entertaining, and to be honest steals the show. First of al she did some painting with some painting things I found out for her when I sorted my Art things out. Then we had lunch, and got the Monopoly out, This was played until 4 pm!! The one thing it did make obvious that although she is a very bright girl, and her reading, spelling, and writing skills are way above her age, her mental maths is not. I am not sure how good they should be at that age, but to me even though they had concentrated on tables last year, she had not grasped them out of context IYKWIM, nor could she see numbers in her head to do the mental maths, or knew the groups of numbers which always made 10. I must admit I always loved maths at school, but maybe any teachers on here could give me a guide as to what maths level some starting in Y5 should be? More numeric games to be played with us to be sure. She then spotted some Brain Builder and Trivial Card Games we had under the coffee table, and we then played those, she was OK with the maths ones with pencil and paper, but could do the word ones mentally as quick and sometimes quicker than I could find them! When we took her back DGNephew thought we were a good excuse to mess with his dinner, but as we had took him a DVD on Tigers to finish watching, he had been watching it earlier at our house (we won it on a raffle) he soon got sorted by Mum and backed up my me advising him that no DVD was going on until dinner had been eaten!!
OS wise I had some pork spare ribs and some Loin which were thawed and needed eating, so I popped them int he SC with a few slices of cored Apple. That with some new potatoes and mixed veg made a nice dinner. Today I have 2 small pieces of Fillet Tails, but not big enough on their own and also have some sausages thawed, so will do a dinner around that, have some new potatoes left, and got a cauli from Aldi, so will make a Cauliflower Cheese, and do Carrots. Lunch will be Crustless Quiche I made on Saturday with some streaky bacon I had left from making Chicken Breast stuffed with cheese and wrapped with Bacon, peppers, mushrooms, tomatoes and grated cheese that was started, it was the Lidl mixed one which made it tasty, but I find that grated cheese goes off much quicker than blocks so didn't want it to spoil. I will raid the freezer today to see what to get out for the next 3 days.
Must start the packing as our trip has been brought forward a couple of days, by calling in on DS and DH to help him sand his lounge floor.
(((hugs))) and celebrations as needed. Take care all DG

Thanks to Donny-Gal for starting today's thread and hello to all those who come after me
This is my first week properly back to MoneySaving after being in spendthrift mode for far too long. I'm feeling nesting instincts at the moment (it's the weather and not pregnancy, I assure you!) so this seems a good time to take a look at the FlyLady thread. I have a cleaner but she's been away and her standards have slipped recently anyway ...Anyway, she's coming tomorrow so the house needs to be tidy and I'd like to look at some of the things I know she doesn't do or doesn't do well.
I also need to run an errand, feed a cat, visit my parents (who're coming back from a holiday today) and go to an exercise class so today's a busy one.
Hope everyone else has a good oneHousehold: Laura + William-cat

Good Morning DG and all who follow.,busy day today .I start my wekk of lymphodema appointments this morning Everyday with a pump attached to my right arm to see if they can reduce the swelling on it.Bit of a nuisance really as it ties me up for at least an hour + a day but hopefully it may help a bit.School run first with the lillte guys then a 10.00 a.m. appt. this morning. Then round to let the dogs out at DDs afterwards then home for lunch and back to pick the little ones up at 3.30.Its all go at the moment .Inbeween I shall fit in some washing & ironing and maybe a bit of housework No shopping to buy this week at least so I shall save my pennies for a bit.You can feel the autumn nip in the air already even though its sunny during the day.Supposed to be quite warm this afternoon I may take the boys to the park after school,I don't like to waste any sunshine thats available it will soon be long dark evenings again.Hope everyone has a good day even if it is Monday morning
Cheers Chums

Morning D-G and all to follow,
You must still be typing.
Up awake since 3.20 this morning, worries about DS, and.I had to take OH to the airport ar 5.30. I am not quite sute how I will get through my day without falling asleep
I an at work today, then I need to go get stuff for icing a cake, my friend from work has given me loads of clothes recently, and wont accept any money, I bought her some lovely flowers the first time, and this time I am making her mother's 60th birthday cake. I am hoping it will put me in the mood for starting up my wee cake business again. Although I have costed it out, and the same cake I charged 45 fot five years ago, I would need to charge about 65 now to make a decent return! Its a beautiful cake, even if I say so myself, but I cant see people paying that?
Anyway, I have that to do, to keep me busy, I will teach the boys to make sugarpaste roses while I am making those, they should enjoy that.
My great.uncle died yesterday morning, I am sad about that, but he had a fab life, was a wickedly funny man, and has lasted more than a year over what they expected, he had prostate cancer. His fun er al.will be arranged today, and will probably be this week.
Hope you are all well, stay safe.

Sorry for your loss, Jackie.
On a happier note, will we get pix of the cake?Household: Laura + William-cat

Jackie O - hugs to you - hope it works.
No - Jackie G - give us inspiration for our CHristmas cakes !!!!
Gorgeous morning dawning in Yorkshire - good as have loads of washing to put out. 2nd cat turned up yesterday courtesy of neighbours who had taken it in during the downpour last Thursday. He had turned up here, but in the 30 seconds it took us to open the door he'd done a runner! So I got them some flowers yesterday. Still have very stiff neck which is VERY painful, but I hope that with some heat packs and tablets it will go away enough to drive the boys to school!
Still have cleaning things to do from yesterday and need to get something out of the freezer for tea. xx Hugs to all in needMe, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx
March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.0 -
Morning all
JACKIEO hope all goes well today
JACKIEG sorry to hear of your loss, hugs hun.
It's cold here, no heating on though. am going through one of my insomnia phases so had a rubbish sleep. Have got work tonight (agency shift) so I might as well be up all night earning money as opposed to being in bed tossing and turning.
Need to start going through my monthly finances today to see if I've saved any money on food. I know my petrol spending has been huge. Also need to look online to change my house insurance as it's up for renewal. DS going to his Dad's tonight so tea will be what I fancy.
Have a good day all and hugs to those in need.

Morning all,
Sorry for your loss Jackie.
Washing is on the line and the sun is out here so fingers crossed.
DS got knocked out during his rugby match yesterday and ended up in A & E so a bit worried about him today though he seems ok.
Off to work in a couple of minutes, packed lunches made and 2 out of 3 children already on their way.
Tea tonight is something made with yesterdays left over chicken.
Hugs to all that need them.
Have a lovely day everyone.:)0 -
Morning peeps.
Not been on here much as my sister is staying and I'm out of my routine (which includes MSE :phehehe)!
JackieO - hope your appt goes well today. Love the point of getting the boys out in the sun after school while there still is some sunshine.
JackieG - sorry to hear of your loss - it's hard at any age. How lovely for you to have had an uncle with such a sense of humour though. Good luck with ideas/ plans for your cake business. I don't know about how much people pay now. Anyone on here who might give you an idea? Would love to see a pic of course but I also understand about feeling shy about posting one.
Sunny skies here so far but tinged with red earlier. Haven't looked at a forecast yet.
On my 2nd mug of tea. Have plans for cleaning and sorting things a bit here today. Dsis is going to Dnephew's flat to sort out a mouldy bathroom. I have declined the opportunity. I don't like toxic fumes and she is buying some heady stuff. I had a run in years ago with a mix of radiator paint and bleach fumes (eejit ex husband was involved with radiator and not reading instructions and airing) and it has put me off. I'm past the stage of getting into a sweat if I smell bleach though and can use it quite happily now - go me eh;)?
Need to sort washing out so will have wee browse on here then off to do that.
Ah Donny-Gal - we used to play Stop the Bus when we were young for just fun but looking back was a good way to do mental arithmetic. Card game - you stop and shout 'stop the bus' when your cards add to the value of 21 - anyone call it something else? Dsis and I played it with my mum.
