Lady_K wrote:As for moving out she is contracted for a year and would still have to pay the rent but at the same time she would still need other accom so we cant afford it. She is planning on moving out as soon as the years up I think that might be June or JulySometimes i surprise myself by being right.0

Thankyou,
The landlord knows some of the problems but hes really not interested as long as hes getting the rent and all the bills paid. Problem is it was a joint contract he wouldnt let them sign it until there was a 4th person which he found, so they had to agree to live with her and share all bills between all 4.
She could try getting someone to take her place but its not easy once the year has started as everyones already got accom. Plus people get to know about the burglary so it will make it even harder. They are looking for somewhere though already for next year
Apparently when this girl asked for the crime number theyl told her no she wasnt having it as she hadnt had anything stolen plus they would see on the crime number that she hadnt been affected but this girl said they dont check so its no problem. I dont know how shes got that idea but it kind of makes me wonder if shes done it beforeThanx

My understanding is that Police would have taken details of all property stolen and details of the victims. It would be noted that out of the four bedrooms , only three were affected and I am guessing that their suspiscions may already be alerted to a possible suspect . She is not entitled to the crime number and IMHO, both Police and the Uni should be informed that there may be some intention to decieve. I have it in the back of my head that it is possible to get "one room" insurance which is specifically designed for students. Try your current insurer and see what they say , good luck x0

I agree & it seems a bit sus that 3/4 rooms were broken into and the one that wasn't broken into wants to scam the insurance. Does she have dodgy mates or boyfriend or something?
I feel sorry for the ones who lost their uni work - so frustrating to have to do the lot again
There is a insurer through quidco called student guard but their website hasn't 'gone live' yet for home contents quotes.0 -
Still sorting out the insurance but things wont be replaced straught away anyway I was going to ring round some places today and look up the net but my daughter had to come home in the middle of the night as she wasnt well.
Yes the girl not only has 1 dodgy boyfriend but 3 and shes sleeping with them all, they dont know about each other though. Each to thier own I know but when it effects others in the house its not on. Jost too many of her friends and bfs know too much about the house
I think the uni and police should be alerted tooThanx

sarahlouise210 wrote:I read it that the girl with insurance was going to claim for the others on their behalf....as they all live in the same property. Can you get insurance that just covers your own room in a shared house??? If not..and it covers the property then cant she claim and then replace the stolen items ???The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett

You can but it turns out really expensive. You start off with basic cover but when you atart adding laptops etc in student accom it gets really high so I thought maytbe it might be cheaper to combine with my home contents once I get itThanx

When I was at university, Endsleigh (who are student specialists) had very reasonable premiums for just insuring one student's room within a shared house/accommodation. There was an Endsleigh desk actually in the main students' union building, but there is also a website.Sealed Pot Challenge #021 #8 975.71 #9 £881.44 #10 £961.13 #11 £782.13 #12 £741.83 #13 £2135.22 #14 £895.53 #15 £1240.40 #16 £1805.87 #17 £1820.01 declared0

May have changed though - I've been out of uni for 2 years.0 -
The police will have the details of the victims, and what items were stolen and from where. They will also have made a note of the room that wasn't touched, and any copper worth his pay would make a few enquiries. He may not be able to prove anything but it should ruffle a few feathers.
The officer dealing should be told of the girls intention, and she should be given a flea in her ear regarding fraud, and the possibility of being spoken regarding that if she continues her claim!!
Just one question, how did the offenders get into the house? Was the house itself broken into, or was it just the rooms?0
