i phone 5

Is the i phone 5 an actual phone, or just the software??

I'm with 3 and 2 months away from the end of my contract, I rang them last week to enquire about an upgrade. The 'manager' rang me back yesterday to offer me a slightly reduced get out fee, but I told him I'm waiting til the i phone 5 comes out. - I'm not desperate to get one, just wondering if this will reduce the cost of i phone 4. He told me that the i phone 5 is not a phone, its just software, and its not available til May - Now I was under the impression that the software ios 5 was available in a couple of weeks, and that the i phone 5 was an actual phone.
Is he just fobbing me off to try and get me to sign up now for another 2 years??

    It's neither at the moment.
There is no Iphone 5 available there is an iphone 4 though, the software you maybe reffering to is iOS5 which also is not officially available as I understand.
  • If you google iPhone 5 you'll get more info about it that you'll know what to do with. But yes, it's a phone as well as the new operating system that's (allegedly) due out within weeks.
Science adjusts its views based on what's observed.
Faith is the denial of observation, so that belief can be preserved.

At the moment the hits are just showing rumour or speculation, I'm sure when any big news from Apple via the press conference then even if you live in the south pole, you are likely to hear about it.
Trouble is if the OP signs up for the iphone5 (if it ever appears) then he will be stuck in contract when the ip6 appears

The Iphone 5 is rumoured to be out around the 7th October, if reports are to be believed. The next iphone is not guaranteed to be called 'iphone 5', it is again a rumour. I'd hang on another month, thus having 1 months less cancellation fee and the possibility of more reliable information regarding the iphone 5.

The last episode I read was the 15th October, that said, it would seem it will be a month after it is announced in the US , I agree though the OP should kerb his excitment and ride out the current contract, as often new handsets are not available for upgraders but new customers only.

I would wait as you are going to have to pay the rental no matter what, no point
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.
  • Rumours on macrumors.com staes many different rumours from production only just starting, problems sourcing parts and the latest is production delays causing supply problems well into 2012. The fact that Apple has not had a formal launch at WDCC is an indication that there are major problems with this years version (Apple religously launch the new iPhone at WDCC each year). We are two weeks of the rumoured 7th Oct launchdate and still no annoucement.

With Xmas coming up I reckon Apple would be pumping production in products like iPod, iPad, Macbook etc particularly with iCloud launching. I wouldn't be surprised if launch is put back to 2012, would love to be proved wrong though
  • My nephew spoke to o2 customer services last week (had a problem with his iPhone4) and the adviser said they have been busy preparing for the iphone5 launch whilst they had 'small talk'

Not sure if all the networks will be offering it straight away?

iPhone 5 will be a phone, iOS5 will be the updated software.

iOS 5 is definitely coming in a few weeks, as for the iPhone itself as mentioned above nothing but rumour. The most consistent rumours seem to state that a phone will be coming in October but it may just be a 4S (like the 3GS), so just faster with no noticable feature enhancements.

We will see in a couple of weeks ...
