  • I've noticed on the PcPro forum's that many users have not received thier validation code by email. I didn't either.

You can however instantly retrieve your validation code after you have registered your serial number.

To do this login to your quarkstore account at http://eurostore.quark.ch and select the "Retrieve Validation Code" option from the "Support" menu.

Enter your serial number and the validation code will be displayed. There is an option to have it emailed to you, but don't hold your breath, note it down or print it out instead.

The reason why Quark don't automatically email your code to you is that retail packs of Quark already have the Validation code on a card in the case.

Hope this saves somebody some frustration!

You need to follow the links to the Quark site first.
Regsiter using the code from the grey DVD.
You will then be sent (or not) see above post a registration code.

Finally when you install the software you will be asked for the reg number you got from the quark site.

The software will not just work from the DVD. They first want to know where you live.

    Cheers.

Today PCPro have issued the following statement.
    http://www.pcpro.co.uk/news/102587/delay-to-the-dvd-edition-of-pc-pro.html

    Friday 19th January 2007 4:23PM

Delay to the DVD edition of PC Pro
Our apologies to anyone who was hoping to buy the DVD edition of PC Pro. A production error has meant newsagents are unable to stock it until next week.
The CD edition is still on sale, and includes three full products, including the complete and unrestricted version of QuarkXPress 5.

The DVD edition includes seven extra full products, including anti-virus software, the full version of Ashampoo Burning Studio 2007 (which can burn CDs, DVDs and Blu-ray discs), and Steganos Security Suite.

Again, our apologies for the delay.

got my copy from WHSmith yesterday (couldn't find anywhere else that stocks this mag) & got my validation email today.
At the counter they were doing a promotion - buy the Times (65p) & get £1 off your mag - result! But they didn't have the cd in the 'normal' mag, so I bought the dvd version that's £4.99 (£1 dearer than the cd version, but with more free programs).
My friend works at a major publishing company & they use QuarkExpress for all their stuff (promo leaflets & mags for several ftse100 companies) - so it seems like a good deal, even if version 5.01 isn't as good as the current version 7; thats IF you'll get some use out of it.
I notice that Quark's technical support number is 0800 too - well worth a try if you're interested.
    Hope that helps someone!

Oh dear! Sorry to be negative about the £3.99 Quark program! I bought the DVD version for £4.99, such a bargain. Loaded it onto my 6 month old high powered unit but all I got was a request for personal details, and a notice that within 48 hours an Email would be sent with the number key to set up the program! So far, so good, though a little disappointing. I then switched off my machine which refused to start again, some time later. No amount of push, pull or prodding would get the little blighter to restart. Boy did I curse that 'free' program.

After careful thought I tried the disk that came with the unit, no effect. Windows it seemed was corrupted. Next came the windows disk, no luck! In fact windows wanted to reformat my C drive and wipe out all my data. One half day of study led me to run checkdisk from DOS (The only communication with the computer). After restoring the corrupted disk Windows reloaded without further trama. All my data was saved. First job, make a backup of all the files.

Back up your data before running Quark! It could have been a coincidence but I don't think it was.

I think it probably was a coincidence. Quark 5 has been out in the marketplace for a couple of years now so if there were issues with the installer then they would have ironed that out by now.

    Unfortunate though.
