    Hello :)

Is anyone else finding that their hormones are making them all teary and emotional over the silliest things? My son has come home from pre-school and has been telling me what he's been doing-and for some reason I got all teary when he told me santa had been into his class, given him a present and he'd been playing pass the parcel!!

I am also now getting annoyed by silly little things too!

Does anyone know what you can and can't eat when breastfeeding? In the hope baby comes by xmas! I am looking forward to pate and cheeses more then anything-not so bothered about booze.

Mayo is fine if its from a jar, its only the stuff made fresh thats a problem.

Some doctors midwifes seem to get it totally wrong when telling people what they can and can't eat. All cooked cold meats are fine, it's just the cured ones eg. parma ham, salami etc that aren't and they are fine if they are cooked.

Same with the cheeses, you can't eat them raw but if you cook them and eat them hot they are fine. Seafood too, raw is a no no but cooked is fine, so prawns are deffo not a problem.

Another one is rare/pink meat, its fine aslong as the outside is cooked.

The NHS have a very good page about it all on their website.

It won't be fresh mayo rebekah, you'll be ok!
  • Nothing rebbecca!

    Have a drink and relax.
I think mayonaise in shop bought sandwiches is fine as its pasterurised. Put it down to experience and avoid in future if it concerns you.

My take on the lists of food we are given to avoid is that the majority are there because of the risk of food poisoning (some excpetions like the Vit A in pate) . So I've been careful as I can but when I have accidently eaten somehting on the no-go list I haven't beaten myself up about it.

I have been accidently ambushed by the odd soft cheese canape at a wedding before and decided that at a posh hotel hopefully the overall risk of food poisoning in general is low and also that lots of people who have been pregnant before us have had different food guidelines to follow and survived :-D

Keelykat - A few weeks ago I couldn't stop crying as HR mucked around with my mat leave...I'm a lot more rational now so it does pass....it's just not very pleasant in the meantime.

    Hope that helps somewhat

Oooh yes! I was ready to tell my other half to get stuffed this morning, as I went on Facebook and found someone wishing him a good night out, when he hadn't bothered to tell me he was going anywhere. And it is an Xmas do I would usually be invited to, obviously I can't go this year, but I'm fuming/upset that none of them even mentioned it to me.

Babycentre says you should be able to eat and drink what you like when breast feeding. There's no restrictions on pate, cheeses etc like when you're pregnant. The only thing to bear in mind is that some things could potentially cause colic, but that is a bit trial and error really.

I've found I can get very teary and emotional at times... I'm now no longer allowed to watch nature programmes (Frozen Planet nearly finished me off one time!)...

And my hip really hurts today for some reason, I can only take tiny steps and stairs are a trial, and someone's bought something so I have to wrap it up and go to the PO. I'd rather just sit in a corner and feel sorry for myself.
