anyone here with Gestational Diabetes?
I got a call today saying I have it and so need to attend a special clinic on Thursday.
Still in a bit of a shock and wondering how i will get through Christmas with it... i will be the awkward one making my own meals...0 -
Thanks Gin and Emmy. I'm pretty close to my mum and have found her to be inspirational in lots of ways, but I just find her a bit, dunno full-on at times and it takes me back to being a teenager feeling like it's all such a one-way street with her... I do worry that sometimes I just only focus on the negative and need to learn to turn it all into a positive instead.
I've done my first lot of baby-clothes-washing today and it's all come out lovely and soft, so feeling fine about not having a tumble-dryer (again it was my mum saying "you'll want a dryer" that made me think/worry about it)!
Midwife home visit tomorrow! She was meant to come on Friday, but couldn't get a space, so I'll be curtain-twitching in the morning looking out for one for her!
I should probably get my bag sorted asap given there's less than 3 weeks to go!!
Last day of work tomorrow - god I can't wait.
Thursday I've got the second of three NHS antenatal classes, then in the afternoon I'm having eyelash extensions (so not me, but a friend has had them done and they look great) and a pedicure0 -
See, I thought I was organised, but haven't started my hospital bags yet.
Might make that my priority for tomorrow while I have bucket loads of energy still.
Today, nursery has been cleared, so is ready for painting later this week and then me and OH have spent the night wrapping DD's Xmas pressies.
At least that's one big job out of the way.
Sorry Tiny, I'm no use as i don't have it but I hope you get sorted on Thursday.

I dont have GD but my dad has regular diabetes. Doesnt effect much, i mean, he doesnt eat different meals to the rest of us, he just doesnt have the sweet stuff (or more usually, doesnt eat as much of the sweet stuff as the rest of us!!) and has to watch his beer drinking as it has a fair bit of sugar in it.
Clinic will most likely be among similar lines to those a person with diabetes outside pregnancy goes to - they will give you advice on what to expect and what to avoid eating. Plus what it means for your pregnancy and any extra medications and/or monitoring that may be required.:jProud mummy to a beautiful baby girl born 22/12/11 :j0 -

I havent started packing mine yet and i have 4 weeks to go! Ive been so bogged down with the building work and getting a bedroom painted that i havent sorted it. Ive got the stuff i need clothes wise - sat in the hallway still in the matalan bag. A small handluggage bag has been dragged out of the loft and is sat next to it but nothing packed yet.
Have a list of jobs to do this week and packing the hospital bag is on it.:jProud mummy to a beautiful baby girl born 22/12/11 :j0 -

Not sure how I feel about this tbh. I'm usually pro-choice but this seems a tad extreme. My experience of pregnancy so far and the attitude of the midwife, and other pregnancy professionals (hypnolady and nct group leader) has been to de-medicalise birth as much as possible where possible and this seems to go against that.
The bit about them anticipating fewer sections because they are now optional doesn't make sense to me either?! Surely women who are anxious about the birth could be identified before they put their hand up for major surgery??0 -

I'm sure part of this is that her own mother showed no interest at all in helping my mum when she had babies, and she felt really isolated, so she's keen to ensure I don't feel the same... But it's gone from one extreme to the other
This bit is my MIL, she's always wanting me to let her come do my cleaning even before I was PG and even more so now but I don't let her. Thing is I KNOW that she did alot for DH before I moved in but only because she wanted to but then made out to everyone he was useless and she had to do it or he'd be living in a pig sty! DH is actually pretty good around the house, the only thing he doesn't do is cook, he always helps me with the cleaning so when she starts saying I'll need help I just have to tell her that I already have help in the form of DH!
She also thinks she'll be ringing me several times a day and popping round all the time when baby is here but I keep mentioning that my mobile will be off or on silent if baby (and maybe even me!) is sleeping and have warned DH that he has to tell her to ring before she comes round so I can ask her to come later or something if its not convenient. I hate it when people just turn up anyway, especially when they then stay for hours!!! I know its exciting for her but I'm trying to reach a compromise that means she can check up on us enough to keep her happy without driving (a very independant) me insane!!!
I guess I just find it all a bit strange as my mum is like me, very independant, so she doesn't assume anything, just leaves me to get on with it but is there for any help/advice if I need it. To be fair to MIL she always makes out that she's going to be much worse than she actually is when it comes down to it so hopefully it'll be the same with the baby!!
Last night I went and picked up my ebay bargain moses basket and stand, it's fab! Its like new, no-one will ever know we didn't buy it straight from mothercare! And, the lovely lady gave me one of those little chair things for the baby, I think most of them bounce but this one rocks. She wouldn't take any payment for it, she said it was going in the skip if I didn't take it...it's like brand new!! Only thing is its a very plain one and doesn't have a bar over with toys dangling down. Does anyone know if you can buy one of those to attach to them?
Think I'd best shut up now, I've waffled on enough!0 -
Morning ladies, hi tinytears, the lovely Ro is right, I got diagnosed in the last week, I thought it would be diet controlled but levels are too far out so I'm on insulin, Seafarerswife also has it and is on tablet control.
The clinic will explain your levels and what you need to do, my protocol, is to check blood with a !!!!! test first thing in the morning, then an hour after brekkie, lunch and dinner, results get logged into a diary they provide, I take insulin immediately before meals.
The finger !!!!! doesn't hurt and the insulin again is virtually painless, just faffing.
Yours might be diet controlled, which will just mean swapping sugar for sweetener and cutting back on potatoes and juice etc.
It is very overwhelming at first but i'm starting to get my head around it all, often with gd because baby could get big and labour can be slow they often plan to induce you a few weeks before, my consultant will book my date nearer the time but they are looking at 38 weeks and in my case a caesarean.
Hope you are ok, the ladies on here were fab to help me get my head straight.
I'm also benefiting from extra scans and consultant every 2 weeks in between i see mw, so am having weekly checks which is nice and reassuring.#JusticeForGrenfell0
