The M/W at our class said to remember its a marathon not a race, and early labour can take a looooog time, so try not to rush around doing too much as it confuses the body into thinking its not safe to start labour, and can delay things happening. She advised taking as much rest as poss, napping when you can, eat light snacks and plenty of fluids, so that you are storing your energy for later when the hard work starts! If you can spend time in a cosy, dimly lit room, relaxing, then your body is more likely to tune into the labour signs and let things progress..:)

Keep us updated hon! Thinking of you!

P.s Early contractions apparently do feel rather like period pains! You can take paracetamol and use hot water bottles to help.

thanks love, am now wishing I'd gone to my antenatal classes!!!! Think we might go to tesco and then just come back and chill down for a bit, thank you for that, I thought going hell for leather would start things off not hinder them! So chilling out it is, do feel a bit sicky, and my stomach is doing something just not sure what.:o Although it is slow it is still so very exciting knowing that it is imminent and that we're going to meet our tiny baby soon :T. I rewashed and ironed all the moses basket stuff last night so put it all back together this morning, it looks lovely :). unfortunately my waters broke all over the carpet so had to clean that up, although it could have been worse, it could have been on the bed or a huge gush so, wasn't as bad as some I guess. ooooooooh so excited!!!:T

Welcome hon.. I remembered you said that you hadnt been, so thought i would pass some of her words on in case they helped. Every labour is different tho', and as a first timer i dont claim to be an expert myself! Most labours/births start in the night, as that is when we are most relaxed and feeling "safe" at home , so i guess that is the theory behind the dim lighting and relaxation! Make sure you eat though, as it might help with the sicky feelings- you will need all the energy you can get. She said eat whatever you fancy, the higher energy the better, in fact she said if she was on duty when we came in, she would tell us off if she saw "diet", "low fat" or "lighter option" snacks! A big bag of sweets was her number one must have! :D
Maybe lie down with the music on the hypnotherapy CD on when you get back from tesco? Something nice and relaxing.

Am here if you need anything that i can do from a distance!

P.s. if you have an old shower curtain at home, (or want to buy a cheapy tesco value one), they are apparently very good for sitting/lying on at home and in the car to catch any more waters that are leaking.

Have just eaten some chocolate and sweets to try and get baby to move as I was getting concerned but he has moved a little, I don't imagine theres much room for him to move around! Belly does hurt quite a bit just weird sort of feelings, keep needing a poo though!!!!

Will get a big cup of pick and mix from tesco :) looking forward to that to keep me going :)

    Thanks again kira xx

Thanks for this post. It all makes sense, esp when you say most labours start during the night when relaxed etc. Mine started about 3am:eek:

Lirin. Your bump is lovely and neat :)

Been getting nursery ready a bit today, cleaning and sorting rubbish out. Will paint it next week when my mat leave starts ( or rather get OH to paint it while I supervise lol).

I can totally understand you not wanting to go to the classes alone.. never mind, you have all of us instead, from the comfort of your own home! :rotfl:

I think she said its quite normal for baby to be quietish too, as they are preserving strength for the big effort too later on, and with the contractions and moving down, there isnt alot of space for them to do much!! Sudden frantic movements are supposed to be more of a worry. The needing a poo thing, is not always needing a poo, but just pressure on your back bits. If you feel alot of pressure, then worth mentioning to the m/w as you dont want to push too soon, and pushing and poo urges are hard to tell apart (thats when you are supposed to do the puffy breathing thing!). Oh, and you are supposed to try and go and wee every 30mins/1hr, even if you dont feel like it..

Hugs and enjoy the pick and mix! have some flying saucers and fizzy cola bottles for me!

    Good advice Kira!

Hope things are progressing Missy :D

I've spent 2 and half hours wrapping Christmas pressies and watching F1 this afternoon and I'm shattered now. Still got a pile of ironing to do too :( Oh and this morning's breakfast dishes
