  • Im going to be brave today and do something ive been putting off for ages. Im going to pack hospital bags, but first I need to wash all babys clothes and moses basket bedding.

is anyone using any different washing powder to what they use for themselves? i just use persil the blue powder box for whites and the purple box for coloured and have no idea what the difference is between bio and non bio lol.

I was advised to use persil non bio for baby clothes/bedding with the softner which matches for senstive skin.

I am just using the regular stuff that I use - purple Persil and Asda own brand purple fabric cond. The reason being that I am allergic to a lot of washing powders and fabric cond, I get an itchy rash from them, even the sensitive ones. I will just have to see if baby has any reaction to it, but it will be expensive if I have to do a separate wash for a few wee baby outfits. Hopefully s/he will be ok with what we already use.
  • cool, i already use persil non bio and dont tend to bother wtih fabric conditioner, but will get a bottle in before washing baby bits.
  • Hello Ladies!

I haven't been on for ages, baby is taking up all of my time. I see a couple of familiar names - hope you're doing well! I just wanted to pop by and share a couple of things I learned, things I wish I had known before I had Josie:
    1) If your baby is not facing the ideal way, do everythig you can to get her turned. I thought being on my hands and knees was tedious and didn't bother much. It meant I had a very painful labour, stress on the baby and eventually an episiotimy and forceps on only gas & air. Not nice.
    2) If you get an infection after the birth and are prescribed antibiotics, take some kind of probiotic. Yoghurts or drinks will do, but the best is probiotic acidophilus tablets from Holland&Barret. It will prevent you getting thrush. And that's one thing you really don't want on top of everything else, especially if you're breastfeeding.
    3) If you are planning to breastfeed: good on you. But. It is hard hard work for the first few weeks. You will feel as if the baby is permanently attached. You won't get anything else done. You will need to be well prepared or have a good support network around you.
    4) Don't believe the people who tell you "babies are easiest in the first few months, cos you can just put them down and get on with things". What they should say is SOME babies. Some babies are quite happy just lying wherever they are. Some need to be held constantly, maybe for reassurance, or because they regurgitate if placed on their back. Be prepared for that.
    5) I've heard it said before, but I didn't pay much attention to it: it's all about the baby. Seriously, if you think you're tired at nine months pregnant, if you think you're sore and fed up: try to still enjoy doing the things you like to do for yourself, especially and particularly if you don't have any support nearby. Once the baby is born it will be a long time before you can do what you want to do without being distracted by baby or worry about baby :) Or maybe thats' just me :)

Hope you are all blooming and looking forward to your baby days. They are tough, and at the same time exciting. Something completely new and different, and every day you are learning. It really is like starting a new job :)

Just received an email from one of the baby clubs reminding me to try and stay active.

I'll not comment on that- getting off the sofa hurts......
  • ive just done a huge sainsburys shop to be delivered in a few weeks, lots of treat food and snacks for labour bag in there, but also planned lots of easy meals for the last couple of weeks as dont feel like cooking now so certainly wont in a couple of weeks time :D

................ oooohhhhh thats really naughty :D but seems they enjoy doing it far too much!!

Re Rhesus Negative status q - I have it too, ditto whats been said with the addition to be aware that if you have any bleeding during pregnancy/have an accident then will need extra anti D injection within 72 hours. Also my midwife gave me a link to a leaflet maybe worth asking as it will explain things for you :)

Caelshorn - thanks for posting your advice!!

God my back/pelvis was murder last night, think I might have overdone it yesterday tidying and lifting my friends baby :) who is v.cute. Dylan was desperate to lick her but had to keep him on a lead but they seemed to like each other :)

    have a good day all

From what I hear all fours scrubbing the floor or leaning over a gym ball are supposed to be good ways to get baby in the right position.

I'm always using my floor wipes to clean our floors so hopefully it wont be a problem for me, saying that I am one of the lucky ones I'm still able to do pretty much everything as I did before pregnant.

Although everything takes a lot longer and makes me more tired and achey :(

Probably because I am so stubborn and don't like askin for help so even when it's something hard like cutting my toe nails I still muddle through with a few naughty words !!

Hope everyone is OK and bumps are wiggling well

Jen, you have SPD as well don't you? Physio asked us not to vacuum, push shopping trollies, or brush.... Vacuuming hurts, trollies are ok til I have to turn, and brushing is alright-but DH won't let me do any of them anyway!

Was just in Asda, and a woman in her 30's was coming past me with a packed trolly. She saw me, I saw her looking at bump, and even though I was standing quite close to the shelves, so not in her way, she pushed past that close I just got turned in time to avoid bump being hit by her trolly....it caught me in my side instead. I did dig her in the side with my elbow, which was rude, but I was annoyed at how inconsiderate it was!

Will try all fours later as well- and bouncy ball again, but I'm weird about doing both atm, I'm worried about bouncing baby out! I know that's so stupid to think though....
