I prefer Jay as well, Jhay is an odd way of spelling and I can see why people would pronounce it J-Hay. You'd need to keep telling people its Jhay with a silent H, but I don't see why you need an extra H.

I know OH wants an input, but if u can change the name to Jay, how about letting him choose the middle name?!?!

Just back from our all day NHS antenatal class. It was a LOOOOONG day (9.45am till 4.30pm) , and totally knackered now, but, i must say DH and I both thought it was really very good. Got lots of info, context, advice, and because it was offered by the hospital we are birthing at, it was built around how they do things there, rather than generic "in some places they do this, other places do that". TBH there wasnt alot i hadnt read myself already, but good hearing it from a different angle, and the hospital midwife who lead it was good. I also feel reassured that DH has heard it all now, as i sort of felt before like he was going to leave it all up to me to think about. He is really pro-birthing pool now which is funny, and now i am hopefully discharged from consultant care, i might be allowed to give the pool a go! :)

I think my waters have broken or I am having a very watery/pinky/gooey show.

Unfortunately I cannot get out of my town.

The M5 is closed in both directions for the day, certain roads were closed due to a jackknifed lorry blocking a major roundabout and carnival floats have reduced the main route to where I need to be to single lane traffic until tonight when they move on. Traffic is actually backed up 12 or so miles.

The midwife unit in my town cant see me as they have no staff today so I may have to go to Weston.

I dont have a car, my mum has just had a massive go at me (unrelated to the subject, even if I did ask her to take me she would refuse, in her day you just went to bed and didnt make a fuss, she is the type of person who thinks funerals for babies are strange) so will have to go by bus, that would also mean a detour as the 2 bridges closest to me are closed (maybe one has reopened) after a landslip.

Its not exactly fun here to say the least.

Oh my god Ravenlady you live near me ;-) Well sort of

Are you sure it was your waters? are you having any pains? hope you manage to get somewhere

Weston can do straight forward births, anything complicated they can always send you to Bristol, at least you get a fast ride there!

Where are you travelling from? Is it worth trying a train, then taxi?

Where abouts do you live? people are starting to sound more local to me. I thought i was on my own! my baby is due to be born at Bath hospital:T

  • Right, finally got some time to catch up on here a bit, I've lost who's been saying what but there have been a few things over the past couple of days that I keep thinking of to chat with you girlies about...

Raven - hope you get the care you need asap, dearie. Look after yourself.

Kira - We're in the midst of our NCT classes now and that, along with the hypnobirthing classes we did have really empowered OH. I agree that you don't really learn much more than you didn't already know, but I think it's good for just meeting other people in a similar boat, and for the OHs to get some info too.

Caelshorn - fab advice, thank you.

Re weight - I jumped on the scales at my m/w appt whilst I was waiting for her. I've put on 2 stone at 34+5, which seems to be a lot les than some of you!! I reckon I've added at least a stone to my bum! I was about a stone heavier than I wanted to be when I fell pregnant... determined to lose it all though (later of course).

Re other forums - someone mentioned babyandbump the other day and how, erm, young some of it is... I totally agree! The other end of the scale seems to be mumsnet... OMG they can be vicious over there, so so serious. I like it here best :)

Re turning babies - both my hynpo lady and NCT lady said basically to lean forward and use gravity to turn baby, specially when he/she is wriggling. Sitting on a bouncy ball will help, as will all 4 fours.

Re perineal massage - OMG. I just don't know how I feel about it. I can't imagine it's specially comfortable, though I'd like to do it if it will help...

Re maternity jeans - I've got a pair from Topshop and a pair from H&M. Topshop ones the band is a right awkward height IMO, deffo wouldn't buy them again. The H&M ones are over the bump and much better, but really long in the leg...

Re doritos in the oven - I've never thought to do this - GENIUS!

We are almost, almost done with all our shopping now (for the baby and the flat) - thank the lord. Couple of bits to get tomorrow to finish off my mummy bag and then just a few fiddly flat bits. Our shipping from Oz turns up on Tuesday which will be good, can't remember exactly what's in it!! This week will be busy at work, but things have calmed down and I'm handing over to someone, so plan to offload as much as I can so that in effect I'm just backing her up until the 24th when I officially finish. Then, the rest of the week's priorities are:

    - Research washable nappies properly.
    - Go swimming and do new Terri Lee preggo yogo DVD
    - Get my "bag" and other mummy stuff sorted (nightie, primark pants, RLT, arnica, birthing ball)
    - Do more hypno practice as well fallen off the wagon with this...

    Happy Saturday loafing ladies!

    BM :) x

I've finally ordered my pram. :) I had my eye on the Maxi-Cosi Elea, until I saw one in person, and not only could I not make it fold, but they'd put a join in the middle of the handle that moved around constantly, right where you'd push it if doing it one handed. So I started looking again, and found a Silver Cross on offer at Toys R Us for less than the Elea would have cost. It only just squeezes in my tiny car (chassis has to go behind my seat!) but is rather nice, and comes with lots of accessories. :)

Also picked up some Spatone, as it seems to be the only iron I can tolerate. The apple one is ok to drink straight out of the sachet, and is 3 for 2 lots of places. Got mine at Tesco for £9.95 a box of 28, which is expensive, but anything is better than the prescribed iron.

P.s. saw this while I was out, am I the only one to think it looks very odd?! Looks like you've wrapped the pram in a cheap coat! :D
