Is everyone buying breastpumps before the baby comes?

I was going to but we just had our parentcraft class and were told if we intend to breastfeed we shouldnt buy any pumps or bottles or anything except breast pads. She said buying this stuff is akin to going on a diet but having the choccy biccies in the cupboard just incase.

    Confused now.

Only 8 weeks to go and so far bump has a crib and a pram. I think i should probably start buying stuff soon, but no idea where to start or what is necessary.
I got a pump, but it was a bargain in TK Maxx (of all places).

My cousin's just brought us some stuff that she was bought but never used, including a bottle warmer (which OH wanted, but I thought was a waste of money, so I guess he won that one!).

So far we have: A ton of clothes (including a christmas outfit!)
    Blankets, sleeping bags etc.
    Nappies
    Wipes
Steriliser (x2 as two people have given us one now, but other will go to MILs)
    Bottle warmer & Bottles
    Breast pump
    Breast pad
    Maternity towels
    Towels
Puke cloths (for want of a better term)
    Muslins
Drawers with a changing top which can be taken off
Cot which turns into a bed (not necessary just now, but we had the money there and it matches the rest of the furniture)
Treasure Chest (built-in wardrobe really isn't big enough)
    Crib
    Moses Basket
    Pram

I think that's it! I know some of it we won't use now, but we seem to have accumulated loads.

  • I just need some bedding for the crib (got loads for the moses basket but none for the crib for some reason). Changing mat is on its way from aunt. Also got a bath as granny buys one for all the kids born in OH's family. The pram is a 3 in 1. Haven't got toys as yet, but got some teddies.

We've not bought that much yet, but so many things people want to buy us for Christmas, so I'm happy enough to wait.

On tonight, I'd just had a shower to change into clean pj's when OH text from work to say get myself ready, we're going out tonight. So I've actually made an effort, he'l probably die of shock God love him. Got my nails all done, eyelashes on, and red lipstick at the ready! Tempted with heels but think it may hurt, haven't worn any for months!

This is exactly the reason I would like a breast pump Kira, OH has been talking to a guy at work who has 4 kids and he told him that it would really help me if he was to do the last feed in the evening, 10/11 o clock time, that way I get to go to bed earlier and then get more sleep and sort the baby when it wakes in the night, and OH can sleep, and we both get decent sleep! Thanks very much to that bloke :D It wont make me want to BF less if I have it in the house.

Great minds OBVIOUSLY think alike :D! I seem to recall in one of the books i've read about the early days, that the key number of hours sleep for mum to try and get in one block is 4. Kind of is enough to give basic functioning without feeling totally , which is why it recommends OH's doing last feed of the night, and mum going to bed early so with a 1-2am feed, mum will still have had the 4 hours..
