Not at all. Far from it, lovecrafting- if they have a rule that they will respect equally, they should make the attempt. They wouldn't have to have a great awareness, but at least letting the kids know other options exist....

While we are far from churchgoers, we have let DSD know about Christian religions. Personally, my own views would lean towards Paganism, which we've also told her about. She's aware of various other religions as well, Islamic, etc. What choice she makes in the end I'll try support.

the problem is, that there are only 9% non muslim kids in the school. but they just met the wrong b**ch because the entire reason i became a govenor was to ensure each and every child does in fact matter. I dont object to them learning other religions at all but i do object to theres being blocked out and disregarded as silly, we have had an issue with this a few times and now i think i am going to blow my top

The issue the school likely will have is they only have so many hours to teach a subject, therefore fitting in many differing religions will impact on the pupil's learning ability. (Sorry, been writing emails in work all day, we're overly formal!)...

RE over in NI has always been traditionally a monotheistic class- many schools are uncomfortable teaching outside that. I'm not sure if it's the same in the rest of the UK. Religion is one of the trickiest subjects in NI as well- I commented on another post recently I used a different pronounciation of my surname when I worked for newspapers depending on which religious community I was in- this was so I didn't get attacked more than anything!

You should be able to learn about a multitude of religions, it is only fair. The problem in NI is it is so insular.

I agree, what i object to is my children being made to feel that there religion is silly and not worthy because it isnt what the teacher agree's with, i am trying to be really diplomatic here but I am quite sure if they decided not to teach kids about christmas and still chose to teach islam. I will be seing them in the morning and they know how offended i am. i really hope they now dont decide to do a dress up day as a token commitment, it has been done before.

Not happy. Been stuck on the car park for over 90 minutes with everyone coming out of lidl staring at us and giving me pitying looks :( RAC man is now doing complicated things with a hammer and screwdriver to the boot and to top it all it is now starting to rain and my back and tummy are really hurting :(

Oh and my hospital bags and pregnancy notes are locked in the house (6 miles away) and the house key is locked in the boot :(

Manc- had to do this one before! My mum left the keys on the ledge, which when she closed boot, locked them in the boot, and under the ledge. I had to break in through the door, then take apart the lock from the inside to sort it out..... Big hugs, he will sort it out, no car is impossible to break into.

Lovecrafting- I've seen a couple of token days, and they can be a little insulting. If they make a mockery of it, it's better not done at all, and taught privately? Though I agree on the principle of it....
