I am so fuming, and i dont know if i should be or not. asked dd3's teacher when i collected her, what they are learning in RE and if they will be doing samhain (haloween) she said they will be reading a few funny bones books and maybee making things but because they are so young they wont really be doing much RE until after the christmas holidays, but could i please take in a list of our religious festivals so she can be aware of any special times in her home life etc, i agreed and was happy with the response, she is only four afterall and they are at least making an effort to take her religion into consideration.
asked DD2's teacher the same question, and got a short response of, its against school policy to learn about paganism and they will be learning about eid this term.... erm what, why is it against school policy? and surley if it was i would know, considering i am a govenor.. i replied with, i am sorry mrs Mamood but i find that difficult to beleive because the reception class are doing something about it and as we live in pendle i thought it would be an important part of the curiculum? she replies with... no my class are not learning about haloween or any other pagan celebration as i said they are learning about eid. i left it at that and went home, phoned the headteacher who was in a meeting so the receptionist is digging out the policy for me, wilst on the phone i looked at my govenor notes and as the operate the every child matters it is there policy that they will accomodate every childs religion as far as they can and will not favour one over another. so i have a nice little meeting with the headteacher tomorow, who i know will answer my questions and knows full well that if this is the policy my kids will not be at the school anymore. i am so offended, it could be hormones but !!!!!!0 -
Didn't you point out that by learning about Christmas they were learning of pagan celebrations?
I'd be offended as well- I'm not aligned to any one religion, but have experienced aspects of several.0 -
Lirin, i didnt have the time or inclination to discuss the issue with such a biggot to be honest. but yay i am going to enjoy the meeting tomorow because they have time off for easter (arguably pagan) christmas (yule) eid (lets not go there) am i being a drama queen?0
