I can't believe how many boys there are.

Looking at the list of recent babies, definitely looks like 2011 is a girl year and 2012 is gonna be a boy year.

Was going to ask a question, but i can't remember for the life of me what it was. Damn baby brain x

If you look at the babies born in the last month, most are girls but coming up in October are lots of boys! Strange

My bedroom is very sunny and currently has a poorly small person sleeping in it lol she has my germs :( fortunately it seems to be just a temperature and she's sleeping a lot.

I've got absolutely nothing done today and I feel slightly ashamed about that :o Squeak has been very high maintenance though as she's poorly. She hasn't wanted to be put down bless her.

OH and I are going out for dinner with Squeak this afternoon as the older girls are busy doing things, we're going to the harvester up the road so saves cooking. my kitchen is sunny too and it's warm in there as well, plus it'll be easier for me to sort the mess when it cools down later if I haven't added to it by cooking :o

ETA I know two other ladies in RL due around Christmas, we're all within a week due date wise and we're all having girls :)

Lauralou I'd feel a bit of a fraud doing antenatal classes! Which hospital are they at? I'm sure you told me before but I honestly can't remember :o

They are at Poole. Start next Thursday!
I wish i knew people in RL due near me, i'm planning off going to baby groups but i hate going to new places on my mine and really shy:o!

Gilly congrats on Team Blue, lovely scan pics. I'm sure everything will be fine.

Been trying to get hold of my midwife because at my work a kid has come down with chicken pox - i have had them before so i think i'm safe but just getting quite far in my pregnany to knew if its more harmful.

Have you got hold of the diabetes nurse yet MamaMoo? I haven't been on this pregnancy board long so not sure of your exact situation, but I had a call from a diabetes nurse about my GTT results and I ended up being diagnosed with gestational diabetes - it's not that scary, honestly. Once you get over the initial shock anyway! If you need any more info on it let me know xx

can you tell me a bit more about gestational diabetes please. I have been tested and am borderline. so they are going to monitor me but i think i will flip over the wrong side of the boarder at some point. what do you have to do? what problems does or can it cause?
Thanks- was going to google it but i have learnt that google is not always the best idea

Gestational diabetes can cause large babies if ignored (so you may have extra growth scans if diagnosed) - there was one born a few weeks ago which was in 1 year old clothes at birth (16lbs I think!). Other than that I don't know but someone will help shortly. I'm not sure if it's Metformin tablets or insulin (poss depends on the severity)
    C xx

Make notes of anything she says and does that is unacceptable, keep in close touch with HR. If she continues to treat you badly, surely she's just going to make things more serious for herself. You might find she's acting nice as pie and claiming it was just a 'misunderstanding'?

16lbs  WHAAAAT?!?! Surely they'd be monitoring you and get it out before then! My legs are crossed at the thought.

If you have had them before you will be immune. Plus it is only really dangerous in the first 12 weeks of pregnancy when the baby is developing. Both my boys have had it during my pregnancy as well as one of them having slapped cheek syndrome. So please don't worry xx

Ok, well what I've been told by the diabetic team at my hospital is this: the main problem is large babies, or babies with large shoulders which can cause problems during delivery. Also the baby will have been used to getting extra glucose from you and can go hypoglycaemic after the birth (which basically means their blood sugar will drop too low), so they are monitored regularly after the birth (I think they test their blood every few hours) and need to be fed within 30 minutes of birth to regulate their blood sugars. The baby can also be at a slightly higher risk of jaundice, although I think that's more if your blood sugar levels are really high or you already have diabetes.

I had to meet with a diabetes dietician who went through what I couldn't eat and what the best things were to eat to keep my blood sugar levels down. I have to test my blood sugar 4 times a day and write it down, the hospital then looks at it every time I go to make sure my levels aren't getting too high. I have an appointment every 2 weeks at the moment.

I've been given one growth scan so far and the baby was measuring at a normal size, so they're not too worried about me having a big baby. I have another scan at 38 weeks and then they will decide whether to induce me early, or on my due date depending on how big the baby is then and what my sugar levels are. They've said they won't let me go over my due date, think that's standard policy for diabetics.

I've been told that once the baby is born my blood sugar levels should go back to normal and I will no longer have GD, but I have to go for another glucose test 6 weeks after the birth to check my levels, and I'm more at risk of developing diabetes in the future than someone who hasn't had GD.

    Hope that helps! :)
