Hi ladies
Just thought id call back in and update you all! We are now on day 13 :-)
Cora is doing great and we are absolutely smitten. Its the most wonderful thing in the world having a little baby. When she has her alert periods and stares intently at you with the big blue eyes it just melts your heart. We're already planning when to try for a little brother/sister for her.
We're up every 2-3hrs with her as we are breastfeeding, although the midwife assures me this is excellent for a bf baby. Shes had a few off days. Around day 3/4 when my milk came in my boobs got severely swollen and hard and she couldnt latch on properly, leaving a screaming baby and a very agitated and sore-boobed mummy. Luckily my hubby stepped in and managed to soothe the baby long enough for me to get some warm flannels on the boobs to reduce the swelling enough for her to latch on. We've also had a couple of growth spurts already where she is feeding every hour and doesnt seem satisfied, but it soon settled down after 12-24hrs. MW says she has to be "insatiable" in order to get the milk supply to increase enough.
Sleep was difficult in the first day or two, we found that she will only sleep when tightly swaddled and in her moses basket. Her crib (which is only slightly bigger than the moses basket) is just too open and she didnt settle in it.
We're using reusuable nappies and wipes which are excellent. They really arent that much hassle, just wang the net bag into the washer when its full and tumble dry on low heat. We're doing a wash a day for nappies at present but this should settle down to every other day when she starts to sleep longer through the night. At the minute she gets changed at every feed.:jProud mummy to a beautiful baby girl born 22/12/11 :j0 -

Yey so glad things have settled down for you Lovecrafting.
16 week midwife visit was fine, met my proper midwife, who was lovely. My blood pressure was up but not badly so (130/90) which suprised me as I've felt rotten (dizzy and with a splitting headache) for over a week. She said I might be getting lows to cause the dissyness, but that didn't make sense to me knowing my blood pressure - she tried to put me through to the team at the hospital but they told me to go to A&E or my GP. So I called the GPs (the idea of calling A&E with a diagnostic issue is mental advice), the stroppy receptionist told me they only had an emergency appointment. Knowing the hospital had said to get a same day appointment at the GP I said I'd have to take that then. I was really worked up about the GP not taking me seriously or being rushed because I was taking up the emergency slot, but she was absolutely fantastic. Very much a 'you know your body better than we can' sort, after she discussed all my options and concerns she said she better listen to the blood pressure, told me to relax, think of being around the Christmas tree with a good movie on the telly, had a listen then said 'well that can't have been a relaxing movie as you're 145/110!'. So she's upped my tablets to almost double the dose, told me to rest this week with my feet up and see what the consultant says on Monday. In her opinion I'd be better on bed rest for the rest of the pregnancy - she offered to sign me off today. However I'm really concerned about letting the team and my manager down at work, and them thinking badly of me for being on the sick for 5 months. The other side of my head says stuff work take every precaution to make this pregnancy go as well and for as long as possible, you won't care about your employer in ten years time but you will still care about your baby more than you ever did even now about work. What would anyone else do? Should I sign myself up for 5 months of lying on the sofa with my feet up, or be a good soldier and keep going in as long as I can?
Part of me is enticed by the idea of staying home, we'd save so much money - about £250 a month on commuting costs, and I can make sure we batch cook to prepare for the baby etc rather than eating out as much. But then I feel very guilty for putting my family first at my employers expense.
Then again since upping the tablets I can't stay awake, I've had 2 2 hour naps today - would have been longer were it not for the postie/phone ringing. I can't see me getting any work done like this I feel like a zombie.
On the positive side the midwife felt my tummy, told me baby is growing well for 16 weeks (a huge relief as high bp = tiny babies) and listened in with the doppler. She found the heartbeat immediately and told me he's incredibly active, he kept kicking the doppler just like during the 12 week scan. She said it was a bit hard to get a good listen as he just kept squirming away. Apparently he's going to keep me awake once I can feel the kicks as he's a wriggler!
I also apparently have fantastic iron levels, which is cheering.
I think I've been feeling my first kicks this week, which is really exciting. Best way I can describe it is as I imagine a pond feels when you drop a large pebble in it.
A few bits arrived from Boots sale today that I bought for people's presents next year, I need to sort out a place to put all these preemptive presents. It's nice to feel like things are getting organised though.
There's so much talk of food on this thread, I love to cook but I've found my stomach is a lot smaller than it was pre-pregnancy and I'm having to make a real effort to eat enough. All the talk of roasties and mash made me laugh as DH is Irish and once when we went to visit his dad back home we went out for Sunday lunch and I was asked if I wanted 'all the veggies' - to which I got roasties, mash, chips and (thanfully) carrots for good measure! Last night we had roasties and stew, but I only managed 3 roasties and a serving spoon of stew and that was at a push, was anyone else the same in 2nd tri? Today I've had 2 ham sandwiches and some strawberries and cherries, trying to drink more milk to up the calories in a good yet sneeky way.Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008

Is there a middle ground somewhere? I.e not knowing your job i dont know what is feasible, could you maybe explain the issue to your employer, and ask if you can work from home (bed!), so you avoid the stress and strain of commuting, and the work environment, but work still get the benefit of you for a while longer? I know my work were quite grateful that i was willing to work late into my 3rd tri, to help them out, and therefore were happy for me to WFH for the final month. Worth an ask.
Or maybe see if you can be signed off for a month, and then re-evaluate, as sometimes a good rest/break, can be needed to get things under control with a new pill regime, and then see about going back?Married 13/03/10 #1 DD born 13/01/12!!

I find I grit my teeth when i do my pelvic floor exercises lol!
I was on 3 lots of antibiotics right at the start of my pregnancy. I had a varicose vein op on 20th May, got and infection in a wound that needed 2 weeks of antibiotics to get rid of, and i was just starting the 2nd lot when i got my BFP. I also then had a chest infection when i was 9 weeks preg so ended up back on them again! I`m also one of the ones that gets thrush everytime i take them
Lovecrafting, not sure how i only do that? I mean that is an average, obviously bedding makes an extra load and we have quite a big drum. Also, Dh is always telling me off as i literally JAM the machine to the brim! We have a tumble drier and hats on what seems like consantly! I`ve done a dark load and a white load today, and basket is empty
We can use persil here even non-bio due to dh and dd3 allergies. On the grabbit thread someone has posted about cheap daz tho!
Aww Kira, not long and all those calls will stop! It will just be all of the congrats messages and visitors coming instead! EEK! XXMummy to 3 beautiful GIRLS, 9, 7 and 3,and a handsome lil BOY 03.03.12 :T

Anyone else watching One Born Every Minute tonight?
I love it so well excited. Even OH wants to watch it
I wouldn't if I was him.
Had a midwife appt earlier, was a different one to my usual midwife, and she gave my tummy a very thorough prodding. Feel sorry for Bump himself.
Then she felt all the bones in my pelvis, sticking her fingers down the sides of my pubic bones and my hip bones. Was horrible. Made me go all light headed and I'm hurting loads now
