Why is feedback SO important to some folk?

I would never dream of chasing buyers for feedback. After all - the feedback may not even be positive.
You could mention the pestering in your feedback.
As a buyer - i do expect feedback from the seller - but not the other way round.0 -
Getting feedback can be a bit like treading on eggshells. Not every buyer seems to understand it or cares about understanding it and trying to coax a buyer into leaving it can easily backfire.
I received a very nice email from a buyer this weekend, thanking me for the careful packaging and stating how delighted they are with the item... Great! But they haven't left any feedback and looking at their account, they haven't left any feedback for anyone for the last 2 years!"The secret of life is honesty and fair dealing.

I rarely leave feedback for anybody, buyers or sellers. I see it as a complete waste of time, I'd rather be listing the next batch of stuff than messing about with feedback. On the rare occasions I leave it for a seller, it's because they're on very low feedback and every positive comment counts.:j30/7/10:j

Some people have found that they've been hit with a 21 day hold of funds by PayPal and one of the ways they can get them released quicker is by getting feedback from the buyer for the item. In those cases I can see why the Seller would be wanting the buyer to leave it as quickly as they could.0

I've returned to selling on Ebay recently and feedback is stressing me out. There has definitely been a big drop off in feedback since I last listed. I have over 900 positive feedback but have not bought and sold in a while so the way the % score is worked out is on the last 12 months only means it would hit me hard, i've only had 10 feedbacks in the last year so one neg would be very painful as a high feedback total and low % looks bad to buyers. I've got a TSFE buyer at the moment, she's based in the US, took a fortnight to send payment, was posted within 3 hours of being paid and 2 days later she is complaining that she has already waited more than 2 weeks since the auction ended and this is unacceptable and she will neg me!
I've got a huge stack of buyers who have not left feedback and a review of who they have left feedback for shows that they either don't leave any at all or only leave it for their buyers. Some do mass feedback but so infrequently that many sellers are likely to have dropped off their list. Most worryingly one buyer seems to be the unluckiest on ebay, she rarely leaves feedback but when she does it is invariably a caps lock BEWARE!!!!!! neg which probably account for 10% of her purchases.
Despite this I never nag buyers for feedback as it is rude and unprofessional, I just find ebay a very stressful experience recently. I couldn't base my full time business of this, I just don't have the guts.

I find it highly annoying when I have gone out of my way to help someone, such as a missing parcel (turned out was at a neighbors) and an upgrade from 2nd class to 1st class postage at no extra cost because they needed the item asap.
Basically if they (buyer) leaves me feedback they get it back. I always leave feedback as quick as possible for people I buy from...needless to say my buying feedback is full of "fast response"
Even as a small private seller I do tend leave feedback in batches, I recently had a buyer message me for feedback, but understandable as she was on about 5. Although I never really leave it longer than a week after they have left me it.The Fields are Green, The sky is blue, the River Nene goes winding through, The market square is Cobblestoned, It shakes the old dears to their bones, A finer town you'll never see, A finer town they'll never be, Big city lights don't bother me, Northampton Town I'm proud to be!0 -

Do you leave feedback for your buyers when they pay as there is some evidence that buyers ar emor elikely to leave prompt feedback if the selelr has left it first?
Also, why wait 2 weeks for someone to pay- use the shortened dispute claim period and just open an NPB on them on day 4 and have it closed on day 8.
Feedback is odd though, when you want it it seems never to arrive, once you aren't bothered then it is like buses and it all comes at once.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. re#pinkshoes "If you like the item, then I'd leave a +ve, but put a low star for communication, and perhaps put the comment as "Lovely item, but way too much pestering for feedback!"
Rather than 'if you like the item',
wouldn't 'if the item arrives within time and as described' be more fair?
Don't you agree it's very unfair to leave feedback based on whether or not you like the item?
The seller cannot possibly be responsible for that, only for the condition of the item as described.
Feedback should be an evaluation of the overall transaction.0 -
You're being pedantic for the sake of it as its obvious what was meant by it was if the item was as described.MissGivings wrote: »re#pinkshoes "If you like the item, then I'd leave a +ve, but put a low star for communication, and perhaps put the comment as "Lovely item, but way too much pestering for feedback!"
