Why is feedback SO important to some folk?

Hi,I bought an item on ebay from a business seller, paid straight away(as always),received item, but due to personal circumstances haven't had time to really inspect my item.Thing is i'm gettin a message every ruddy day saying hope you like your item..blah blah leave feedback and i'll do the same. I'll leave feedback when i'm good and ready..ie checked my item for faults etc etc, I'm honestly tempted to hit their comms stars when i do get round to it. Why do people get so hung up on feedback?

Perhaps the emails are set up to be sent automatically if it's a business seller. As a personal seller I do get anxious if I don't get feedback in case there are problems. I can't be bothered to chase up though.

If you don't want to leave feeback, don't. Seems a shame if it's their living and you're pleased with the item otherwise

  • There was a problem blackout a few Sundays ago and it is still causing problems. Mostly the problems are with items being sold but ghosting in eBay as available but cannot be bought, but there are a couple of issues with automated messages, feedback reminders being one. eBay send feedback reminders and they cannot be turned off by the seller, some have been sent a number of times to people that only bid and didn't even win! So, anything is possible with eBay.
  • I have been Ebaying for years, and have an account with almost 6,000 feedback. I have set up another account to sell a completely different type of item, but getting feedback is like pulling teeth.

I leave feedback for the buyer immediately, but only about half bother leaving it back. I really need the feedback to build this new account, but won't ask for it for fear of annoying the buyer.

If they're emailing daily asking for FB, then that really is annoying!

If you like the item, then I'd leave a +ve, but put a low star for communication, and perhaps put the comment as "Lovely item, but way too much pestering for feedback!"
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

I always leave feedback, but have never been under any illusion that it is anything other than voluntary. Manners can vary from one person to another so I don't make a habit of pestering people for it as a seller.

Other sites spam people for feedback too, it's not just eBay, Amazon always badger me for it but I don't feel the need to leave it there - perhaps it's because I buy so much that actually it would be a long, tedious process to do it, or maybe their system doesn't encourage or give me an incentive to leave FB, or I just don't see the site in the same way as I do the "community" aspect of eBay.

I agree with Pink - but only if those are the seller's own emails, not the automatic ones from eBay, it would be very unfair to penalise a seller for eBay spam.

I had a seller leave me "ok" as my feedback
I presume this is because i took a couple of weeks to leave FB
i hadn't fitted the part and as such didnt leave FB until i had

They're definately not the usual ebay automated request, they've been worded differently everytime followed by their first name signing off,i've actually explained to them why i haven't left any yet and said feel free to leave some in the meantime and that i will get around to it. I do actually sell on ebay(separate account) and leave it myself once i've been paid.Sure as hell never pester for it,glad i haven't really cos it does get your back up.

  • I wish more of my customers would leave feedback but like others, I'd never ask for it for fear of annoying them and getting bad DSRs.

What really bugged me just now is one of my customers commented on the fact my P&P charges are reasonable (and I re-read it to check) but my DSR star for P&P has gone down since before they left feedback and they were the ONLY person to leave me feedback today. Why say one thing and then leave contradictory feedback? Furthermore, I undercharged on this item; I asked for £3.75 but it cost me £4.41 to send. What more do people want?!

@flickering. "reasonable" could be 3 stars, according to ebay so it may not be contradictory, just not the usual 4/5 stars

Well, she gave me 5s for everything else and did the usual AAA+++ stuff with her FB comment. I shouldn't grumble but my P&P star has dropped from 4.9 to 4.7 because of her, I undercharged her and she said it was fast and reasonable in her comment. Oh well, nothing I can do about it.
