More tax on my car

The problem is that we do need to stop the amount of cars and other vehicles on the road, increasing as fast as it is.
The pollution in towns is appalling, and the congestion on motorways is getting worse. It's unhealthy and unfair on those who choke daily because of the affect that the fumes have on them.
Persuasion hasn't worked, so the only way is to hit drivers through their pockets.
Perhaps an alternative to "mile pricing", might be to heavily tax any second and subsequent cars in a household.
it may just stop a few of the mothers around here who get out the Chelsea wagon to drop their little darlings off at the school a quarter of a mile away.
Central London itself has been greatly improved since the introduction of the congestion charge, so obviously charging more is the only way.

People need cars, live with it.
How would filling the governments coffers, help the enviroment. They have just doubled flight tax and the air don`t seem no cleaner to me.
As for my post being xenophobic and homophobic. At what point did I say I did not like them.

So you have no alternative to Road Charging and therefore we'll continue to have 3k+ deaths every year on our roads, people ignoring the speed limits because they are unlikely to get caught, cars without insurance because police don't know who has/hasn't until they're stopped, etc, etc.
I don't agree that people need cars - most of the population of the world do not have a car. We do need transportation, cars being one part/ choice of the mix/ options. I admit to owning & enjoying having a car and its very convenient to support my lifestyle; but there are other options.
I'm afraid the science behind climate change does not work on a do something today, results are in tomorrow. It's over decades, & what's going on today is the result of what's been happening for decades. Since the congestion charge in London, my perception is that the air is cleaner. The downside of that scheme though, is that as the roads have more space, cars travel faster and I've witnessed more serious accidents (though, of course, my experiences are not a representative sample).
I can see plenty wrong with the proposals, particularly the technology and its application (again the London Congestion Charging scheme has many problems such as free to overseas visitors, poor database management, inflexable customer services etc etc) and would hope these are adressed before any national scheme.
As for not liking "them" - I suggest you look again at the language in your deleted post and see whether the references you used were positive or negative in conotation, stereotype or use. From MSE Martin - Some General Tips On Holiday Home Organisations and Sales Meetings

Aj, I agree.
That, however, doesn't mean freedom to incite hatred & Dazco's references had nothing to do with the merits or downsides of Road Pricing. From MSE Martin - Some General Tips On Holiday Home Organisations and Sales Meetings

Would all those eagerly supporting Road Pricing / Congestion Charging please suggest what alternative modes of transport could be used? Please don't say trains and buses, you're having a laugh. Please don't tell me that cars are wrecking the environment, causing global warming, etc - the amount of CO2 generated by cars globallly is less than 1% of all CO2 generated on earth. Far more CO2 is produced generating electricity and burning gas to heat buildings, yet gas and electricity are both taxed significantly less than petrol."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

Feet, bicycles, car sharing, motorbikes, phones, PCs, teleconferences as well as trains & buses, and, cars. & in 40 years time, when petrol is so expensive because of its scarcity, there will be widely available alternative power sources such as flywheel, hydrogen, biofuel, & others we haven't thought of yet. From MSE Martin - Some General Tips On Holiday Home Organisations and Sales Meetings

IMO you have to sort the problem at the source, I agree that cars are not the biggest contributer to pollution.
We still have to find an alternative to burning all this fuel, but what happens when someone comes up with an idea for an alternative clean solution, the oil companies cannot afford to let this happen, so they buy the idea to stop it from happening and safeguard their profits.Mortgage FREE as of March 2015

Getting back to the OP, is PAYG road usage, a good thing or a bad thing?
On the evidence & arguements put forward, the problems we currently face, & the impact of doing nothing, I'm inclined to favour PAYG.From MSE Martin - Some General Tips On Holiday Home Organisations and Sales Meetings

LOL:rotfl:
So I post a link to a website run by scientists who debunk the global warming theory. And you link me to a movie made by Al Gore. Nice one:T
The earth constantly cools down and warms up, in fact a few thousand years ago Birmingham was 1 mile under ice. Who was to blame for that melting? Me in my ultra clean Avensis? Big dirty power stations spewing out acrid black filth?
No
It is what the earth does and has always done.
If it gets too hot move North, when it cools down move south.
By the way I would be much less opposed to this if I thought for one minute that the money leached off us by the stealth tax master Gordon Brown would be used to help the environment.
But it won`t. Will it?S!!!!horpe0 -
mrbadexample wrote:So, I want to take my mum some flowers for her birthday. At the moment, petrol = £50, flowers = £40. Total £90.
Add the cost per mile (400+ round trip, on M6, M1, M25, M20 + local roads), somewhere in the region of £500. Is Mrsbadexample getting flowers? Not likely!
It's a great idea.
So you've saved yourself £90 - That's what being an MSE is all about :rotfl:0
