More tax on my car

Options
The email was sent to me by a friend and just about made my blood boil, maybe this goverment just wants me to stay at home and claim from the state rather than going out working for a living.

The government's proposal to introduce road pricing will mean you having to purchase a tracking device for your car and paying a monthly bill to use it. The tracking device will cost about £200 and in a recent study by the BBC, the lowest monthly bill was £28 for a rural florist and £194 for a delivery driver. A non working Mum who used the car to take the kids to school paid £86 in one month. On top of this massive increase in tax, you will be tracked. Somebody will know where you are at all times. They will also know how fast you have been going, so even if you accidentally creep over a speed limit you can expect a NIP with your monthly bill. If you care about our freedoms and stopping the constant bashing of the car driver, please sign the petition on No 10's new website

Please pass this on to anyone who owns a car/motorcycle. It affects them.

& what's your alternative proposal to reduce congestion, emissions, accidents & injuries?

How about a rationing scheme instead of a charging scheme? Or higher fuel tax? (yes I know we're already taxed more than practically everyome else).

  • We already pay this, It's called "Road Tax" and "Fuel Tax".

Doesn't matter what they call this new system, It's still "TAX"

They're only introducing it so they can still get the tax per mile out of us when we're filling up with vodka or plugging the car into the wall!

I'm not a civil servant, MP, member of the green movement, etc etc.

I've asked what the alternative proposals are for reducing congestion, emissions, accidents etc and made a few suggestions which IMHO are less attractive than PAYG.

Also, I'd be grateful if you'd use less xenophobic & homophobic language in any future posts.

Anyways! If it goes ahead, I will be paying something like £250 a week to just get to work and back! Which would cause probelms because my outgoings would then be excedding my income rather drastically

I very much doubt you'll be paying that much.

And if you will, you should move house to somewhere nearer work rather than moaning about paying £13,000 a year in road pricing charges.

So, I want to take my mum some flowers for her birthday. At the moment, petrol = £50, flowers = £40. Total £90.

Add the cost per mile (400+ round trip, on M6, M1, M25, M20 + local roads), somewhere in the region of £500. Is Mrsbadexample getting flowers? Not likely!

    It's a great idea.
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

I have no alternative proposals! I never said I did.

People need cars, live with it.

How would filling the governments coffers, help the enviroment. They have just doubled flight tax and the air don`t seem no cleaner to me.

As for my post being xenophobic and homophobic. At what point did I say I did not like them.

The price isn't going to be over £1 a mile on motorways. That sort of figure is simply b*****ks and scaremongering. Motorway rates will be some of the cheapest and the highest rates will be in inner city congested areas.

And why is it a good idea to drive 400+ miles to deliver some flowers when a local florist can deliver them from 5 miles away?

If congestion charging gets people to cut out ridiculous journeys, then it's no harm IMHO.
