exactly the same thing happened to me, but it was with £100, and she KNEW i was struggling really badly for money on a few occasions and never paid it back (even though she could afford it).
In the end (after about 18 months, numerous texts/emails FB messages) i just put it down to experience, blocked her from my FB, deleated her number etc.
  • I guess its down to what you want to achieve.

If you are doing this because you need the money. Then you really should let it go and put it down to experience.

If you want to do this on principle then go down the route of a CCJ. That would indeed teach her. I would let it go as I think life is just too short.

I wish all I had to worry about was £25 though!!!!

If you did go to court and win you'd be awarded the court fee on top of the £25 so you shouldn't be out of pocket (unless she refuses to pay the court; although I think over such a small sum, most people would pay). It's up to you whether you do it but it's probably not worth the hassle. If your last known address is her parents, I'd send them a letter outlining the facts (so they can see how irresponsible she has been) and ask them to get her to contact you about it. It sounds like they may have not brought her up properly though and they may not care, but they may put pressure on her to do the right thing.
  • OP would never win if this was taken to court!

Would need to prove that the money was ever actually given to defendant (and I'm assuming it was cash and will therefore be impossible), then prove that it was a loan and not a gift (got anything in writing that would actually stand up in court?). I'd probably then ask you to prove that there was an agreed time frame in which it would be repaid.

Was it even your £25 anyway or was it from a student loan which might never get repaid? I wouldn't have expected that £25 was a lot to worry about when faced with the many thousands of pounds of student debt you presumably have?

Just get over it and move on!

She has messages on facebook remember. These will prove the girls intention to repay the money and confirms it was not a gift.

When he said "facebook messaging", I too assumed a proper facebook message, but facebook does also have that real time messing system which doesn't record much of previous conversations (AFAIK). If it's the former then he's probably got a good case in court.

Ooh, would this be the first conviction by facebook? I can see the judge in court with his wig, gown and iPad. "Exhibit A, m' Lud, please log onto your facebook account..."

3 years at University dodgy spelling starting sentences with 'basically'.and without the common sense to walk up to someone and ask for the money (it must be messaged through facebook;)). Doesn't that give you hope for the future of British industry?

well she lives in london and i live in essex, so no i can't exactly "walk up to her". and sorry for not reserving my best writing for this forum. why don't you try being nice? this was my first post and you just criticise me. BASICALLY, thanks for hurting my feelings. excellent.
