owed money by someone, worth trying to get it back?

Options
Hello! first post so if i've put this in the wrong place then i'm sorry!

but basically, i'm in my 3rd year at uni, but in my 1st year (around march 2010) i leant a girl i was friends with at the time £25 for a train fare. she always said she'd pay me back at summer, but that came and went.

i then continued to ask her many times, and she said she was short of money. (but from what i've seen on facebook, she could definitely afford to amass £25 over a year and a half), but the last thing she said to me was that she promised she would get it to me. (this was also in facebook messaging.) however, the last thing i said to her went unreplied to, and then she deleted me as a friend, surprise surprise.

basically, is there anything i can do that won't cost me MORE than the £25 i need to get back? i've looked into statuatory demand but i'm not sure if i need a solicitor.

any help would be greatly appreciated!

kate.

  • Chalk it up to experience I'd say. Karma will get her in the end.

  • JESUS, £25?

I paid rent for a friend of mine and I lost over £1,000. I was only in my 2nd year but I chalked it up to experience and you live and learn.

£1K for a 19year old and I felt terrible, but I'm over it.

Why wouldn't you chase somebody for £1000 they borrowed

It's not particularly a small amount of money to just let go.

    Op, let it go
  • its hard hun when you are screwed out of money by someone e.g 1st flat I rented he kept £50 of our deposit for a fridge that was already broken when we moved in. not a big deal now when I look back but at the time newly married and a baby on the way I was pig sick. Just be thankful it wasn't more and put it down to experience.
As my dear dad says and his mum before always said "neither a lender nor a borrower be" x

Young, Stupid and loosing it taught me a lesson early on. Didn't want to waste time chasing it.

You lent £25 to a friend and she didn't pay you back?
