    People ask me that or for a light, and I don't even smoke! Either that or the old "I don't have any money for my train fare could you spare me some"

    Drives me mental.
    The frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.

    Oh I have had that also, one man on the train said that he was military, come back from afghanistan and really needed to get home but had no money, for a minute there..... but no, he just went from me and the story to another person:D

  • I just say "NO" and carry on... don't give a carp what they look like, I'd screw my ciggies into dust first befor handing the magic "spare" one over!! I would never dream of asking someone for a ciggie!!

    Last week OH was walking down our road, just been to the shop and some random says "Hey got any spare money so I can buy some beer?" OH told him were to go... starting in F and ending in OFF!!
    Even if you stumble, you're still moving forward.

    I wouldn't fall for that one just because he says he's military. My brother used to be in the RAF but would have travel warrants issued to him while on leave so he could get home. And surely that guy would have plenty of money as he can't exactly spend his wages whilst in Afghanistan - but that's just the cynic in me :cool:. I don't smoke so the cigarette question doesn't affect me but I wouldn't give anything away to random strangers, I'd keep my head down and just walk away saying "sorry but no" to any begging requests.

    Yes and also they land at Brize Norton and normally get picked up by someone so its very unlikely theyd be a random train somewhere with nothing! Also you could tell as theyd be in uniform.

    I hate it when people ask for the '50p for the train' thing. Saying theyve come out but cant get home - as if someone would buy 2 single tickets! If youre gonna lie to get drink/drugs at least make up something realistic.
  • I always have an empty pack in my pocket.

    "Hang on, I'll see, but I think this was my last one"

    //check empty pack

    "Yeah, sorry about that :) "
    One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.

    Well I could indeed but it does beg the question since when would I have to do that whilst just minding my own business in the middle of town?
