Do you cover your hair MamaMoo?...St Paul says one should ( but very few Christian 'branches' follow that edict, even in the place of worship now) ...but is that his word or God? This is the stumbling block for me, thank God, that I read what is there and know I personally cannot believe it is all the authentic word of a compassionate God. There are too many contradictions, too much pity in Jesus for me to believe he would condemn someone for loving...

Think I'd better stick to the money threads lol...

but to all...may your God go with you :)

No, I don't cover my hair. As I said above, I believe the Bible is the word of God. I haven't claimed to agree to it all, or follow it all (I'm a pretty pi*s poor Catholic, I know)
I have also gone against, or disagreed with, many other teachings of the Bible. It doesn't, however, stop me believing that the Bible is the word of God.
No-one alive does, or during their lifetime ever will, know for certain whether God does or does not exist, or what his true beliefs are, and so we can only guess and trust scripture.
As I say, what I believe, and what (according to the Bible) God believes, are not necessarily always going to be the same.
I suppose that's the joy of using and abusing free will ;)

    marriage=religous ceremony.
    religion doesnt allow gay marriage.
    do the maths.

My religion does :j. And we have legal celebrants in Scotland so why can't my celebrant marry a gay couple? I'm pagan BTW.

had to thank you arbroath, i forgot about paganism despite it being one of my favourites. but as it preceeded all known religions with a god at the centre, it is a 'special case', as there is no 'god' to say its right ot wrong, eitherway.
i trust you are a true pagan, and not a dragnet pagan?

At the same time, I can't see why homosexuals would want to marry in front of a God and a religion who condemned their lifestyle, and even their very existence.

I agree with this point, however they should have the choice if they choose. Personally I can't see the attraction myself.

"I can't see why homosexuals would want to marry in front of a God and a religion who condemned their lifestyle, and even their very existence. "

God hasn't actually spoken on the matter! Only the authors of the bible and their interpreters since have...but since God 'creates' the person ( if one is truly religious one cannot argue that point) then God creates the straight/homosexual/bi-sexual...it ISN'T a 'career choice' or indeed a lifestyle or moral one...what you are is what you are.

If you were instead to assume it's a choice people choose, would that lead to a different conclusion?

Now I think being homosexual or bisexual is fine regardless if it's a choice or not, but the idea it's not a choice people choose is often used to support opinions about it, so I wonder if people would have different views if they thought it was a choice?

    ^This. Exactly.
If a religion is more than happy to have a homosexual couple marry under that religion, the law should not be able to stop them.

I am somewhat flabbergasted... You believe in God, and you believe that the Bible is the word of God. But you consider yourself bisexual and disagree with God over "many" teachings in the Bible. Not only that, you say that no one knows whether God exists!

Sorry if this comes as a shock, but (in my humble opinion) you aren't a Catholic in the slightest - you're agnostic.

I was raised a Catholic, and I believe in many of the fundamental teachings (thou shalt not kill, love one another etc) but I do take the Bible with a pinch of salt. I don't believe in the story of Adam and Eve, I believe in the big bang theory. However, I do believe that God created the universe. I believe that science and religion are not necessarily in competition.
I do believe that the Bible is the word of God, and therefore I believe that his stance on homosexuality etc is as it is in the Bible, however just because I believe in a God, it does not mean I have to agree with Him on every point.
I personally find homosexuality perfectly acceptable. Belief in a God doesn't mean I have to believe in every teaching. That is why God gave me free will.

And it's true, no-one knows whether God exists. Personally, I believe that He does, but there is no irrefutable proof, and therefore no-one KNOWS, without proof, it is just belief.

I wouldn't class myself as Agnostic, as I believe in God. I cannot prove that my belief is correct, but it is my belief nonetheless.

I consider myself to be a Catholic, and sorry to be abrupt, but that point is not up for discussion here. I am Catholic, I believe in my God. End of.
