The only useful thing I learnt on my speed awareness course - that you can do 70 on single lane roads if there's a central reservation :T0 -
Some limits do appear to be set to confuse/raise money. In Stevenage the town centre is surrounded by a rectangle of dual carriage ways with roundabouts at each corner. 3 of the 4 are 40mph, the 4th is 30mph but there is no obvious reason for the difference.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

any non motorway road that has streetlights is automatically a 30 unless another limit is signed0

room237 is wrong. A dual carraigway with or without street lights is 70mph unless there are signs saying otherwise. That's what the national speed limit is.0

This off the DirectGov website:
A limit of 30 miles per hour (mph) or 48 kilometres per hour (km/h) usually applies to all traffic on all roads with street lighting. This applies unless you see signs showing otherwise.0 -
if its a 30 limit then surely doing 44 would mean other cars are noticeably slower?Who remembers when X Factor was just Roman suncream?0
