The Blackberry bolt on at £5 pushes the blackberry browser over its blackberry connection to the phone (along with BBM), if you dont have it you would need to install Opera mini to use the 100MB.
The 100MB inclusive is available on any handset, but the browser on a BB is a third party one without the Blackberry service activated.
So I download Opera Mini and can then use the internet free, as I thought I was going to? Really that simple? Why wouldn't the Orange staff tell me that???????? :cool:0 -
Probably because they didn't know. For £5 a month the PAYG Blackberry package is a steal in my opinion, unlimited push email, internet, BBM and Facebook usage0

Yes, a steel from me!
free internet should not be 5 quid extra, it makes no sense, unless you are a greasy second hand car / mobile phone salesman - same thing :rotfl:0 -

I think that you are not listening.Since you bought the thing to check your emails, you are missing out on not having the Blackberry Internet Service whilst having a Blackberry.
Once you actually make use of the service you will understand what I mean.
BIS is not just Internet. Goodness knows why you actually bought a Blackberry.
Of course you can get around it by installing Funambol....
Why don't you go back to the shop and ask them to actually demonstrate the Blackberry functions to you?0 -

Blackberry actually take most of the £5 a month, the service uses a seperate APN, seperate servers etc. Having a Blackberry without the service totally negates the point of having a Blackberry0

Why are they not? They can use internet for free (I think). And they can use the browser to check e-mails, although this is less convenient than using some special piece of software.
If you read the OP you will see that this was because "a salesman in Orange ... suggested". As simple as that.
Are you having a lark?
Checking emails via the browser? What kind of caveman are you?
Some people just won't listen. I've suggested the best way forward.
At worst, unlocking and changing the firmware costs nothing.
Not using BIS or BIS-like features and instead using a browser to manipulates emails on a BlackBerry is just dumb. especially when there is no extra cost involved.0 -

I don't see any problem if you want just check e-mails and don't need notifications. Some people just won't listen. The only reasonable suggestion would be to change the handset (not easy to do) or the network, but you suggested to "go back to the shop and ask them to actually demonstrate the Blackberry functions".
Also it was strange to hear "I think that you are not listening" from a person who didn't bother to read the OP before replying to it.0 -
I also agree with others just port your number over to t-mobile im presuming your not on any contract and all you need to do is add 10 pounds to your new sim and you get 6 months 500mb internet and free blackberry.Im sure your phone wont cost that much to unlock.0

Nope
Firstly, it was about the OP, not about me....
Thank goodness, because it seems that also you have a problem with comprehension.
Scroll back and read my very first reply.
I suggested a solution that offered six months of free Blackberry Internet Service and data. No need to top up £10 every month as with Orange, nor to take £5 out of that to pay for the Blackberry service.
So please, read and comprehend before continuing to argue.
As an aside, I fail to see how checking Gmail via your browser has any similarity to the functionality of the Blackberry service.
Have you actually ever used a Blackberry for that purpose??0
