I always know by the smell of my soup whether it has gone off or not but it can be a sign if it has gone frothy but I always use meat when I am making soup so I am always extra vigilant as 9 times out of 10 I use chicken.
Personally I would never leave anything out in the summer weather I would have put it in the fridge straight away def not leaving it on hob for 12 hours. Hope it is ok though.0 -
Just skim the froth of the top and then see what it looks/smells like. Its probably just a chemical reaction which is harmless because I wouldnt have thought that it would be off in such a relatively short time. Different matter if it had meat in it.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

I often made HM veg soup and it often goes a bit frothy on top when i blend it all up. I think it just depends on what veg you use. I always just spoon it off even though I'm sure it's harmless.0

I would have thought the froth would have come from the pulses, esp lentils. I find if I rinse them off beforehand its not quite so bad. I just skim it off and there will be lovely HM soup underneath, having said that sometimes I don't and eat it with froth nothing bad has happened to me yet!0

Thanks everyone - it wasn't blended or initially frothy which is why I got suspicious. If I hadn't have made such a hulking great pot then it wouyldn't have taken so long to cool, and as it was cooler and overnight I didn't worry and refrigerated it as soon as I could.
I reserved judgement as to it's state, partly due to thinking it might be the pulses too (good point there)! However despite my hay fever I did notice a strong pong coming off and thus had a bean casserol instead.
Very surprised at how quickly it turned though. I'll make less next time and place in smaller containers to cool quickly and freeze asap.
Bit gutted to be honest as it was really yummy when first finished!0 -
Just after a second opinion on tonight's tea or not as the case may be!!
I have some ready to eat pesto, in a sealed plastic pot from the supermarket, with a display until / use by date of 4th July. The ingredients are basil, oil, pecorino cheese, pine nuts, lemon juice, garlic, salt.
It looks, smells and tastes fine and I am inclined to eat it!! If I had all the ingredients separately I would merely check for freshness and not go by dates... am I missing some major safety concern by using the same theory here?!!
Sorry I'm feeling a bit brain dead at this end of the day!! Many thanks :-)0 -
:rotfl::rotfl:laughing at myself really, when i saw your user name i thought it said trots, which you might have had if you had eaten it and it had been off. Then i looked a bit closer.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

if its in a sealed jar it will be fine for months rather than day....enjoy!- prior planning prevents poor performance!
