    what concerned me is ,

I cooked the chicken once for a roast,
then I cooked it again in a pastry to make a pie,
then I am going to freeze it,
then I will reheat it again to eat it.

so in effect its been cooked 3 times , which worrys me .:o
    Kindness costs nothing :)

I personally would freeze it on its own, then when you want to have the pies, defrost the chicken (first) then make your pastry, sauce, etc and cook it for the final time (obviously cook only when the chicken is defrosted -defrosting won't take long if you freeze it already ripped into bits). This way it will only have been cooked twice. May be a bit more long winded not being able to make your pies today but I would say this is safer than 3 cooks. But I am happy to be corrected if 3 times would be ok.

    I hope this makes sense!

from what i have read , it says that once it has been refrigerated/frozen
it should be re heated only once after that.
So as its only been frozen once ,
I presume that it should be ok then , as long as I heat it up until piping hot.

I am worried cos we are having one tonight :o

    Hello everyone

Well I cleared out my food shelves and unfortunately found quite a few out-of date things.

So do you think i could still use any of these:

Tins of tomato soup use by 10/08
    Flour use by 09/08
Ambrosia Creamed Rice use by 09/08
    Jelly use by 04/08
Angel Delight powder use by 04/07

    Many thanks in advance

I have used tinned food (recently) dated 2007. I have used 2004 flour in 2006. I would still use the jelly and Angel Delight.

I've just checked and I'm definitely not dead. :D

If anything's moving. growing or stinking, throw it out. Otherwise, it should be fine. ;)
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

    Hi OP

I used a tin of toms which had been in my caravan and got overlooked. BBE July 2004! They were fine.

    Hi There

Tins can be used as long as they are not rusty or punctured. The contents are a little less tasty - the longer after the BB date you go - but i have made trifle using mandarin oranges and tinned custard which were 2006 dated. It tasted fine and passed the taste test with my fussy OH.

I guess this is what happens when we start doing storecupboard inventories.

I would also use all the powdered items - esp the flour which is going to be cooked anyway.

    :-)

A 1944 can of curry was auctioned off last year some time. It was then opened, cooked and eaten. I don't recall any reports later in the week of the winner having died :)
