Do people not reply to party invites these days??

  • Do people also not even bother to ask their child if they want to go to so and so's party? I've read lots of replies on here of excuses of 'seeing what else we're doing first', 'waiting for a better offer to come along', 'don't know what plans we have' etc etc, do none of these parents ask their child and put their feelings first?

Whilst using up a weekend day ferrying my kids to a party (esp as I'm a nurse and rarely get a weekend off so they are very precious) is not my idea of heaven, if any of my kids get a party invite, the first thing I do is ask them if they want to go, if they do, then I go out of my way to make it happen for them, even if that means I cancel something I had planned to do myself, it seems to me that a lot of parents are putting their own wants and needs before that of their children and so lots of kids are missing out on their friends' parties

Exactly.Hubby isn't working this sat for a change and we were going to have a lazy day as a family but then DD came home with an invitation for that afternoon.I asked if she was friends with the boy,did she want to go(the jumping up and down with the envelope in her hand should have given the game away :p) and she said yes.So I'm hardly going to say" sorry love not my cup of tea and wasn't planning getting out of my PJs on sat so tough" am I?? ;) x

  • OMG I'm really shocked at how ill-mannered people are! DD is only 19 months so I had no idea - this thread has been a real eye-opener. How rude!
  • Yep how rude!Still no more replies.Stood outside DDs class at home time today and felt like shouting at all of the rude gits to get lost and not bother replying but managed to contain myself :rotfl:

Ahh, takes me back to when I was at school. My mum was (and still is) useless at RSVPing.

I was invited to one party at the local wimpy, mum didn't RSVP and so I turned up bedecked in my best party dress only to be told there was no party there that day. I felt like a prize prat.

Later found out the birthday boy had come down with chicken pox so the party was cancelled, but as my mum hadn't replied the mum didn't know to call her and let her know.

    go on .... I dare you :D !!
  • We had this 20 years ago with my first child who went to a state school and we were lucky if we got replies. My child now who is a lot younger is at a private school and we get replies to every invite every time. Wondering if that tells me something about the types of people???

I have come to the conclusion its how the parents have been brought up or "dragged" up. I find it extremely rude not to reply and on one occasion as someone else on this thread did I sent letters saying I hadn't heard and had to give numbers. I got excuses like they forgot, they hadn't had the invite and all sorts.

Also, as for having to spoon feed people with mobile numbers, e-mail contacts etc, if a number is given I'm sure they can manage two seconds to pick up the phone and call. Whatever happened to communicating. We are losing the skill.

Unfortunately, I think its the way things are going. I find people these days very rude, very selfish and all they seem to care about is money.

  • PS - to the OP - I'd feel the same like shouting at them all. If it was me this time round, I'd do party bags for all those that replied and anyone that didn't reply and turned up would make a point of saying sorry no party bag as didn't know you were coming. Horrible for the kid, but maybe next time they'd reply.

  • To be fair, a Mum came up to me at school and asked if my daughter was going to her son's party. I replied 'I'm sure she can. When is it?' In between receiving her invite and getting home, my girl had lost her invite. She vaguely mentioned it, but with no invite I didn't think anything of it, so was made to look ignorant, when I'm really really not. Kids!

  • So a week today and have 18 replies from 27 and I'm sitting on my hands determined NOT to send out the reminders I sent last time!:p
So far have managed to keep the preggers hormones in check and not chuck a wobbly outside the classroom door at hometime but who knows what'll happen by friday :rotfl:

Hmmm you know.. when I was in school, invites were given out with an RSVP section on them, kids completed after asking parents, and then they were given by the invitee to the inviter, to be given back to the parents.

Seriously, I don't remember any where it was phoning.. and I'm only 19 btw!
