Landlord is terminally ill and has given notice!

Of course, if the landlord produces a doctors letter to confirm his story, then that is another matter.
On the basis that the LL follows the correct procedure. Then his personal affairs or decisions are irrelevant.0 -
From memory - the landlord did originally live in this house previously.
Certainly - the daughter may well have a job and/or Life where she is - and Blackheath would be too far away from the job and/or Life for her to be able to continue with them.
Blackheath to Bexley not far at all.0 -
OP, we were in exactly same position (apart from 50K wages) - asked to leave rental as LL's daughter had go herself into trouble and she was moving her into the house. We have no savings as husband had been made redundant twice.
We contacted council- yes, we could apply but they couldn't guarantee anything; our 'bid,' (as they called it) would be considered along with everyone elses.
We spoke to letting agency and as we were good tenants who always paid on time, they agreed that if we moved into another one of their properties, they would transfer the deposit, which is what we did. The only thing was if the original LL deducted anything from deposit, we would have to make it up, so we made sure the house was immaculate when we left. Hope this helps.
All the best0 -
As we have established earlier in the post the op does not have 50K wages 50K is the company turnover before expenses running costs and tax the op's wage is actually nowhere near this amount.
OP You have realy really got to do yourself a proper full set of accounts so you do know what your clear wage is this will be of huge assistance in planning your financial future. I am self employed also so know how easy it is to tangle up your own finances wiht company finances but they really have to be kept seperate.
Good luck
VickyThe glass is always half full, no exceptions !!:D

The responses here are the clearest indication of why an unscrupulous LA/LL would use terminal illness as an excuse for getting tenants out.
Understandably most people wouldn't think twice (like the OP) about letting the LL move back in to the house. If they did think twice they wouldn't get much sympathy for daring to question what they've been told."One thing that is different, and has changed here, is the self-absorption, not just greed. Everybody is in a hurry now and there is a 'the rules don't apply to me' sort of thing." - Bill Bryson0 -

However, asI have been almost the same situation regardless of income, I would imagine and hope my post would be useful in some small way. But thanks for your curt clarification of the situation.0 -

Not the case at all.
My comment, for instance, about asking for a letter from the landlords doctor to produce to the Council (ie as proof that they couldnt sit there and "take advantage of the law" - but had to do the decent thing and move out as soon as the notice expires) would have the double advantage of proving to O.P. that the landlord is indeed as ill as he states.
I wasnt born yesterday;) - or the day before either:D - and know that it will help give the O.P. "peace of mind" on getting such a letter that she is "doing the right thing" and that a letter like this (or something similar) will help her if she needs to check out the truth of what the landlord is saying.
If he is as ill as he says (and I believe that he really is actually) then he will be able to do this no problem and will understand such a request and make the "business decision" that its easier to get this than have to deal with a recalcitrant tenant using & abusing the law.
To me - this situation sounds genuine though and he will obviously be aware that the O.P. will be able to visit the area (or have someone else do it) after the event to check that he really IS living in this house. O.P. could find ways to "play heck" after the event if it turned out he wasnt living in the house after all - and he will know that. So - yep...I do believe he is telling the truth (the daughter at the bottom of the road is the clincher in my view).0
