Landlord is terminally ill and has given notice!

A cynical person might say he's being encouraged to get rid of you so the house is empty when he pops off so his family can sell it for more than with tenants.
You've got to do what's right for your family. Which is probably in your circumstances make him evict you.
Discuss it with him perhaps though - say it's nothing personal and whilst you appreciate his predicament he has to appreciate yours.0 -
As your husband works all over the country would it not be possible to relocate to a less expensive area? Obviously you would still need the deposit back earlier etc.0

Just what I was going to say. Even if you only move just outside London, within easy reach of visiting your friends and family there, you'll save significant amounts on your living costs.0 -
I would follow the advice given and speak to your LA and LL.
I know someone else has already mentioned it but have you looked at the Debtfree Wannabe forum? If you posted over there you would receive lots of non judgemental support and ideas for reducing your debt. Give it a try.
Good luck with it all.0 -
In the longer term you need to keep your personal and business accounts separate. Your husband does not have a £50k income if his fuel and transport costs are coming out of this.
You need to do a proper SOA, two actually. One for the business and one based in the wage that he draws from his business. I think that your debt may come from the mentality of using all his incomings as take home wage and not considering the outgoings.
That said I hope it works out ok for you. You've seen how being nice hasn't got you anywhere when you left your employer. Your home is your landlords business not his home. If he wants to live there to be near his family, could you swap houses with him?0 -

Unbelievably cynical!:mad:I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. I volunteer to help get your forum questions answered and keep the forum running smoothly. I am with most here, negotiate for early return of deposit and reduced last 2 months rent if you can.
And given your general problems with debt, please do get that sorted. Are you working? If not, go back to work ASAP. Have you been to the Debt Free board? Go there now, post an SOA and get the helpful folks there to help you reduce your debt.
Good luck, and I agree that you are a good person in actually caring about your LL and not wanting to give him a hard time at the end of his life. Hopefully some of that good karma is going to come back to you.0 -

THere is nothing wrong with being extremely cynical.
A terminally ill person isn't going to be living on their own if they are very near the end. They will need family or hospice care.
If he has family close by why doesn't he move in with them?
And tbh we're all terminal.
That and taxes are the only things guaranteed in life.0 -

You could also argue that to suggest nobody would ever do such a thing is unbelievably naive...
There are probably some people out there who'd claim to have a terminal illness to get rid of tenants by putting them on a guilt trip. People have faked having cancer to get money out of the general public.
I'm not saying this is the case here - but it could happen.
Anyway, back to the topic in hand. I suggest discussing the matter with the LA and LL to sort out some sort of compromise that puts you in a position to be able to move.
As someone else mentioned, why live in London when your husband travels around the country. Might even be worth plotting on a map where you husband has done work and moving to somewhere more central."One thing that is different, and has changed here, is the self-absorption, not just greed. Everybody is in a hurry now and there is a 'the rules don't apply to me' sort of thing." - Bill Bryson0 -
or maybe live in the Midlands. I know houses round here are around 400 pcm to rent and I thought that was expensive, but it will give you a good saving which may help?:T:T  :beer::beer: to the lil one
