  • Going to Shannon from East Midlands next Friday with a friend (then driving home to Tralee, hence my name!) Anyone else going this route,? if you are, give us a wave, we'll be the two women giggling like school kids having escaped the husbands and kids for a whole weekend on the batter! Slainte!
  • Is anyone going to or already been to Arhus, Denmark?

Getting some reasonably priced accomodation is proving to be a challenge, We are a family of 5 which doesnt help.
Also not too sure about transport from the airport.

Well a very big thanks to OP & to Ryanair, Flew to Alghero (Sardinia) yesterday morning, No problems with flight or checking in. Only gripe Ryanair would not allow me and OH to sit next to each other behind our 3 children in the row in front yet my children are used to long haul flights seated with each other or alone. Ryanair said kids must be seated with an adult so hubby asked what he would have done should he have been flying alone with them as they require kids to be seated with an adult next to them). They replied they hadn't come across that situation before !!!!!! However, flight was on time both ways, food prices were reasonable, plane was clean, would use them again but bear in mind they are budget. We have used BA and Virgin and obviously you pay a premium for a higher level of service throughout.

So a fab weekend, top notch 5 star hotel, good weather, and totally unexpected treat . Off to Girona in 2 weeks time for a day trip - getting the habbit for this jetset lifestyle.

Bit surreal : Friday at work - in office yesterday - driving in the Italian mountains this morning - breakfast in Villa Las Tronas hotel (check it out highly recommend) now back at home writing this & looking for our next bargain.

Did you stay in a hotel or did you just go there for a day?

We (2 adults and 2 kids) are going there next weekend for 2 night and I am looking for a mid priced hotel. There doesn't seem to be much of a choice. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

We stayed one night in Alghero and hired a car too to explore the countryside. We stayed in Villa Las Tronas which was the only decent hotel we could find by reading through the online reviews. It is a 5* hotel and we are so glad we booked it. Came to just over £200 for 2 rooms for 1 night, which included an upgrade to a sea view for us. The kids were in the next room. This price also included breakfast and worked out at £57 more than the 3* we looked at. Evening meal there was pricey so suggest you look around if budget is tight for eating. There is a McDonalds in Alghero :-) Not much else seemed to be open as low season. Have a look at the website https://www.hvlt.com and get a quote - you might be glad that you did !!!

We had a fantastic time there and well worth the bit extra, have a look at tripadvisor.com for other reviews.

We have also booked some flights to Barcelona in 2 weeks time for 6 of us. However, this is just a day trip, and we have approximately 7 hours in Spain that day. We would like to go to Barcelona but notice that the airport is actually Girona. Has anyone any advice for getting to Barcelona quickly or should we just go somewhere else given the time constraints. Where would be the best place to visit given the low season at the moment. Many thanks.

If you decide to stay in Girona, this article was in the Telegraph at the weekend:

  • Now why didn't we think of booking another destination, even for a day trip, Girona sounds lovely!

Can anyone who's taken advantage of the Ryan Air offer and flown recently tell me what they were charged in airport taxes at the airport?

Ryan Air website says it's £10 per person UK - Europe, does that mean we only pay £10 for whole trip or do we have to pay again on the returning flight?

Do they allow you to pay this fee on check in or will they take it from your ccard before you travel?

I'm off to Valladolid with my boyf on 3rd Feb for 1 night - only cost me £2.48 for both of us! If anyone knows of any cheap hotels let me know - best I've found is £49 euro for a double room 2 sharing.

MASSIVE thanks to OP for offer.

New tax laws only come into effect on flights from 1st Feb but because we booked flights under this offer after the new laws were announced we should be ok. I suppose we only know for sure on 1st Feb!
