Did you feel that a day was long enough to see Dublin?

    Hi Rbulph,

It depends what you want to see! I was in Dublin for 3 days last month and visited everything that I wanted to visit.

However, I’m going over on the 2nd of February - just for the day, I plan to visit the Guinness and Whiskey factories!

Dublin has a superb bus network, you can be in the city within an hour of getting off of the plane!

If you are staying for a couple of nights, I suggest you visit a bar called The Porterhouse (You may recognize the London version in Covent Garden). We loved this place, after being taken there by a local - they brew there own beers, and are reasonably priced. Of course, you'll have to take in the local typical Irish entertainment that they offer.

The Porterhouse, however is a short bus ride from O'Connell Street (I believe you need to catch the 17a/b or 19 bus. You could also catch a taxi.)

    Address: Porterhouse North
    Cross Guns Bridge
    Glasnevin

Hope this post was of help to someone!

    Best Regards,

    Simon.
  • edit: the title should be.... Guinness Brewery :/

I would advise anyone planning to visit the Guinness Brewery (particularly on a weekend) to pre-book tickets at

    http://www.guinness-storehouse.com/

we were very pleased we did (although it was in summer) as the queues were awful (around 1 hour - the queue was literally out of the building and around the block!!). By pre-booking you can walk straight in and go to the service desk to get your tickets rather than the sales desk. This is particularly important to those only going for the day as we felt a bit rushed even though we did pre-book. Having said that it is the off-season now so might not be that bad. The prices were the same though so it doesn't hurt to be cautious...

    Hope this helps someone!
  • I agree, we visited the brewery last March and had to queue for over 2 hours to get in!!!

Was well worth waiting for though, and you get a free complimentary pint of guinness in the rooftop bar at the end, but again, this is packed out and we ended up sitting on the floor lol

Guinness Brewery, Trinity College, the National Museum and lunch in an decent bar would be as much as I want to do I think. I guess you could fit all this in in a day if you were organised.
  • Kilmainham jail is quite a good visit - they do an excellent cheesecake in their cafe and their food is quite reasonable.
  • Ryanair 'glitch' offers free flights
    From:ireland.com
    Thursday, 18th January, 2007

An e-mail providing instructions on how to get free flights booked through the Ryanair website has been circulating among Irish internet users since last Friday.

The mail claims that as a result of a glitch in the website, it is possible to circumvent the low cost airlines current two-for-one offer and book flights for a nominal 1 cent with Ryanair paying all taxes and charges.

Ryanair is running a promotion whereby customers who book a flight for travel in early February can book a second flight for free. The e-mail provides a specific address on the Ryanair website (https://www.ryanair.com/member/freeflights.html), which is the one provided to customers of the two-for-one offer.

This page prompts users to enter the six-digit code they received when booking their first flight, but it now transpires any six digits can be entered.

As a result, recipients of the e-mail have been able to avail of the free flight without having booked a first full-price flight.

One customer who had received the e-mail told The Irish Times she successfully booked two return flights from Cork to Liverpool for a total of €10.02. Customers availing of the offer have to pay a €10 credit card charge and also have to pay any bag charges or priority boarding fees.

However, it now appears that rather than being a "glitch" in the Ryanair website, the e-mail is an example of viral marketing. This kind of marketing involves encouraging customers to spread marketing messages on behalf of the company, either through providing direct incentives or providing offers that seem so good that people want to inform their friends about them.

The fact that the e-mails have been in circulation for almost a week means it is unlikely that Ryanair was not aware of them. In addition, because the promotional site works with any six-digit code, it would seem Ryanair is not attempting to restrict the offer in any way.

A Ryanair spokesperson said that the airline would not be commenting on the story other than to say the promotion has been "hugely successful".

She did, however, confirm that any bookings made through the Ryanair site would be honoured.

Just got this from an Irish Forum, apparently its all over the Irish papers as well this morning!
It looks like we're all ok!!!!!
  • quick question when i booked my flight i didnt realy understand the form and didnt add a bag - is it alright to just turn up at the airport and pay a charge for this? i dont seem to be able to do it online.

plus i found this hilarious double negative quote on their website while looking at the page on the new taxes -

please write to Chancellor Gordon Brown at ministers@hm-treasury.gsi.gov.uk indicating your opposition to this tax grab which will generate £1bn. in tax revenues for the UK Government, but will not do nothing for the environment. Tell "Greedy Gordon" to keep his hands off your low fares, and stop stealing from ordinary passengers.
  • Another thing that makes me think Ryanair are fully aware of this "loophole" is that the offer originally ended at midnight 15/01 but was then extended to midnight 18/01. Why would they extend the offer without closing the "loophole" ;)

Will there also be another new deadline date appear tomorrow lol :D
  • YASSSSSSSSS Dublin guilt free here I comeeeeeee!

    Good shout :D
