Modem Router Problem

Yup, same result. Nothing getting through - although what is strange is that the LAN light is flickering occasionally, which I understand indicates that information is being exchanged between the PC and the modem
I'm going to try disconnecting the whole lot again, taking the new modem upstairs and starting from scratch with the laptop via a different phone socket. It's not how I wanted to do it, I had aimed to set up a wired connection through the PC I'm working on now, then go wireless on the laptop after I'd got the wired connection up and running, but that's evidently not going to happen!0 -
Make sure the router is going through a microfilter."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

Got those on every phone point in the house, superscaper0

if you can ping the router
start, run, cmd
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
then
ping 192.168.1.1
then try pinging google
ping https://www.google.com
and
ping 209.85.129.99
if the first one works, and the second two don't, I suspect it is a problem with settings in the router, so go to the config screen
http://192.168.1.1
and check that it is connected, there should be a status screen,
if it isn't, double check that you are using the correct talk talk id and password, and the vpi/vci settings in an earlier postEver get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -

Well, have you binned it yet? Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
Oooh, that's spooky! I was just coming back to report!0

Update - no, I haven't binned it yet - in the interests of family harmony I did stuff it all back in the box on Friday night, but I've been twiddling and tweaking and have managed to get it to the stage where I can actually ping the router (though I can't ping either of the other two suggestions Albert made).
I phoned TalkTalk yesterday without any expectation of any help, but to give them due credit, I did get straight through to CS, and was put through to someone else who reiterated that, as I hadn't bought the router from them, she couldn't give me any tech help, but she said I should ring Buffalo and gave me a list of configurations she said I would need. I've been fiddling around with these and something I've done has enabled the initial ping test to work.

I think "VNS" may have been "DNS", her accent was difficult to understand though her English was excellent
One thing that does baffle me (yes, haha, apart from everything else!
) is my TalkTalk password - when I rang the automated line to get it, I was given an 8-digit password. On the dial-up connection panel (when dialling the old modem), the password shows up as a 16-digit one. I'm beginning to wonder if this is an embarrassingly simple reason why I can't get on to the new router, but surely if the password was 16 digits long, why give me an 8-digit one over the phone?
