    why create such a hype for a brand, shouldnt MSE not be promoting this product so much?
    Speaking as a happy Iphone owner on a low fixed budget I am glad that I own one and will never repeat the mistake of using an HTC Desire on Contract.:mad::mad: I have the functionality i need in the phone as phone, and the computer on phone ie the app store which means I can have all sorts of fun and not just talk and text.
    I also believe in having a junk phone for advertisers, competitions etc why should they have my 'A' List phone number?

  • Aspiring MSE 'ers want popular good Phones. The leading Phones indicate where the rest of the market will follow. I would rather nab a qaulity bargain thank you.

    My email provider is Virgin media. It Supported IMAP client list

    Once you've enabled IMAP in your Virgin Media Mail account, just configure your mail client or wireless device to download Virgin Media Mail messages. To learn about configuration settings, click the name of your mail client or wireless device below.
    If your mail client isn't listed here, we're not yet able to provide assistance with its configuration, but it may still work.
    Mail Clients
    http://help.virginmedia.com/system/selfservice.controller

    Perhaps it can't be done.

    Thats just a guide for the most popular email programs, it will still work for others.

    first look here and find you correct settings for your email address

    http://help.virginmedia.com/system/selfservice.controller?CMD=VIEW_ARTICLE&ARTICLE_ID=105623&CURRENT_CMD=SEARCH&CONFIGURATION=1002&PARTITION_ID=1&USERTYPE=1&LANGUAGE=en&COUNTY=us&VM_CUSTOMER_TYPE=

    e.g if your email ends with @virgin.net - click that link

    so now that you have found your settings

    go back to the link, you posted and enable your imap service on your email account.

    Once that is done then start your android email app, delete your old account and start from fresh.

    Follow the step by step procedure and input the correct settings for
    your email address from the link i posted above.

    If all else fails Virgin might be able to help...

    Most important thing is to take your time double check each step
    and read carefully, it only takes one mistake! even something as missing out a full stop in your email address.
  • Love my iPhone and am now addicted after being a life long PAYG user. Orange offered me a good deal upon renewal - reveiwed the payment plan i was on and have since saved on my plan. Good to know some providers aren't just out there for what they can get! Glen.

    I'm not particularly a fan of any OS, and I have my arguments with all of them so please don't think I'm being argumentative in any way mate, it's just the way I see things. :)

    That's a very good example of the ease-of-use iPhone owners and many other people really appreciate which is cool, but it would drive me potty.

    I would hate to have some device unilaterally decide to update all software on my machine, phone, or anything;
    What if I have several different instances of the same program, each one of a different version - or if I deliberately keep an older version of a program? (like how I'm deliberately using an older version of Firefox to read this page right now).

    Operating systems like vista, iOs, etc.., many "early learning centre" apps like the AOL isp software, and many PC/Laptop manufactures all try to take all the control away from the user and have been doing so for years, slowly turning what used to be pretty basic functions & standard knowledge into hidden, geeky "advanced settings" that now people ignore with a blase attitude as if only geeks ought to be interested in how their machine actually works.

    So I suppose that in your (very good) example with Kias & Fords..;
    ..I would hazard that if Kia owners as a group tended to be the sort of pepole that took a greater interest in how their cars worked, and not only did they have cars which could be tweaked to be more efficient than fords, but also very quickly gained the knowledge to work on them..

    ..whereby if the Ford owners were all stuck with main dealers who ripped them off, hardly any of them knew how the engine worked, & even if they did, had no ability to upgrade or modify their car after it left the showroom, then you would probably find "Kia elitism" springing up in the motor forums too.. :p

    As I say, I'm not trying to cause a ruck at all, but that in my personal opinion is the root cause of much of the disagreement you describe above, that, and the fact that many people are irritated by Apple's marketing & sudden rise to ubiquitous, "Everyone who is anyone must have one1!" status, as described by the ancient Chinese saying;
    "no-one likes a smart-ar**. "

    No idea why would you think I am out there looking for an argument with anyone, especialy specificaly you, all I said was that I don't understand why people give names to other people for having something other people don't agree with.

    Different things for different people, you kind a lost me with all that muttering about "how your car works" and "OS Vista blah blah", I have no idea, it's a car, I put petrol in it, I pick them by reliability, looks and price and I certainly don't look for doing any "modifications".
    Pretty much the same with my phone.

    Different things for different people.

    Lots of !!!!!!!! that about marketing, it's just like every other marketing!!
    That is what marketing is about, making your product look better then anyone elses.

    Thanks, but this still seems hopeless. Under "Account settings" there's an "Incoming settings" item only (nothing for outgoing settings). When I select the Incoming settings item it just freezes saying "Checking incoming server settings...". So there's no way I can enter my settings.

    In the step by step procedure in my first post, did you make it
    to step 6? - Manual Setup button?

    Sorry matie if I misled you, I never in any way meant to suggest you were, I just wanted to make it 100% clear from the beginning that I wasn't trying to start the kind of argument you might have seen in other iPhone threads, they tend to bring out the militant side in everyone.. :p

    I like the iPhones (and intend to be getting an iPad shortly) because everything just works (other than warranty faults). In the sense that it's all thought out and comes as a package like no phone I've had before. Other phones I've used are a nightmare to get hooked up to your PC (I don't and won't ever use a Mac), transfer files, update software etc.

    Never had a problem transferring files from my Macbook to my Blackberry. All you do is drag and drop. Software updates run automatically when they become available.

    What she/he said ^

    My DSi didn't have a fully functional operating system or any of the other features of a PC, nor did my PSP, nor does my PS3, why on earth would I want these features on my iPhone?
    For me, it's not a computer, it is a games console - it also happens to make phone calls, which is handy. Same for my iPad - it's a games console, which also happens to have an adequate web browser.

    I have lots of electronic devices which have hidden settings and settings which can't easily be modified by the user. I really don't see the problem with this. If I wanted an electronic device that was more customisable, I'd turn on my laptop, or build another PC, or buy a different smartphone, or just jailbreak my iPhone...
