I had an idea about your trophy for the fancy dress. Obviously you don't want to spend a lot of cash.

Do you know anyone who is handy/DIY? I thought maybe you could make a trophy-with a wood base (stepped if possible like old fashioned light switch boxes) with a piece of medium dowel inserted- painted black. On the top smooth ball (dog ball?) painted to look like a bloodshot eyeball! !!!!!ish eh? or at the top a black plastic bat, spider or rat- they are all around in cheapie shops & Wilcos.
Another idea is to get black & white rosettes made and put a spooky image in the middle- cheaper than a 'sporty' trophy but dear enough

Then another cheap idea would be to make extra spooky certificates for the 1st,2nd & 3rd. There are some wonderful halloween clip art images on Google images plus use a weird and wonderful font! Laminate and give out perhaps with a few spooky sweets!

There's a great thread here- you might have to wade through it a bit- but good ideas- like the bags of bat poo (raisins or sultanas) complete with a rhyme

Sorry but I think you are being very cynical. A few children really WANT to help others, obviously your child doesn't but it doesn't mean you have to make rather nasty comments. Sadly most 7 year olds have already got the selfish message that they NEED to have everything- very few children in our society these days aren't self centered and concerned about the latest toy/ gadget etc.
Thank heavens to hear of one little boy who would like to help others- no doubt encouraged by his mum, but for goodness sake, there's nothing wrong with that. I know which little boy I'd choose!

Good luck with the fund raising. Incidentally in the past some of the chain stores used to have a small budget put aside for local fund raising- maybe not in these austere times but it would certainly be worth asking the likes of Boots, tesco, Sainsburys etc. Headed note paper with the charity registered number might help you in that way

Again, no I am not being nasty. And yes I did say call me cynical. :rotfl:

I would actually consider your comments to be nasty, you are choosing to compare my son to the ops son, when I have mentioned nothing about what my son does or not.

As I said there are many ways to do good, and they don't involve having to tell everybody about it to make you feel better about yourself or to show everybody how good you are etc. ......

If you want to help others, help them, don't do it just because you want praise for being so great.

    hello
as the title says my son is raising money for save the children, he chose this charity himself.

he started with no money, he did a sponsered silence and raised 5 pounds, used that to buy cake mixes, made and sold them, bringing the total upto 13 pound.

he ha s asponsered walk planned on 25th september. he will be walking approxmtly 7 miles around a local country park lake (3 times he'll go round) we plan to get friends and family to meet him for a picnic at the end. As he's only 7 we decided to go for 1 mile per year (is that enough? lol)

any ideas of what else he can do that requires little or no money, at the moment he just has the 13 pound to use for expenses to bring the total hire (kind of modelled on the using a pound to make as much as possible)

any ideas would be great hes really excited about this.

Delighted to help your son out with a small donation. Ignore the cynic.:p:smileyhea

thank you so much for all your kind words and support. i appreciate it so much and so does caleb.

on the negative replies, i kind of feel its a case of damned if you do, damned if you don't situation.

so many people complain about materialistic spoilt rude children, but when you try to show the world they aren't all bad i get called a pushy self righteous fame seeking parent.

yes i'm proud of my son, yes i want to yell it from the roof tops!
another reason we contacted the paper was to advertise the halloween party, see if we can sell more tickets.

again thankyou for all your kind words xx

Hey, let's put it like this, whichever forum you go on there is always somebody with negative thoughts and sometimes it's rather nice to accentuate the positive.

    hello

he had a positive response at the weekend to asking businesses for raffle prizes. he has written some more letters to other places, we found small independant shops much more helpful than the chains.

for anyone who is interested here is is paper article.
if it doesnt interest you please dont make negative comments, he is 7, doing a good thing and very proud of himself.

Glad to hear and see that things are going well. What a ghostly photo too!!
    Congratulations young man!
Hope you manage to sell a lot of tickets and have a fun time at the Halloween bash.

I think I would say because there are always loads of things going on over Christmas and people can be strapped for cash perhaps give December a miss. January is usually a long dark month and that could be the time to cheer folk up with some kind of an event.

Have all you people saying how brilliant this child is, or how much they want to help, or how much you would like to go to this party (but it's too far, wrong time, etc.), bothered to donate on the link that was provided?

4 donations in all, so I guess that answer that question.

    Bunch of hypocrites. :rotfl:

I am not personally getting at the OP or her son either, but at least I am being honest as to what I think about this type of story.

Maybe shaming people into giving to charity, (which is what I believe using a child in this manner is doing), will help?
