my 7 yr old son raising money for save the children.

Options
hello
as the title says my son is raising money for save the children, he chose this charity himself.

he started with no money, he did a sponsered silence and raised 5 pounds, used that to buy cake mixes, made and sold them, bringing the total upto 13 pound.

he ha s asponsered walk planned on 25th september. he will be walking approxmtly 7 miles around a local country park lake (3 times he'll go round) we plan to get friends and family to meet him for a picnic at the end. As he's only 7 we decided to go for 1 mile per year (is that enough? lol)

any ideas of what else he can do that requires little or no money, at the moment he just has the 13 pound to use for expenses to bring the total hire (kind of modelled on the using a pound to make as much as possible)

any ideas would be great hes really excited about this.

Aww, what a superb young man! I wish him lots of luck with his fundraising.

Could you set up a justgiving page for him? You can put the charity on there and what/why where etc your son is doing things. The money goes straight to the chairty when the event has finished Then maybe people can donate via there as well - I would certainly sponsor him:)

Perhaps he could ask his friends & other pupils for donations of toys, and then would his school allow him to have a little table at the end of school or mayabe in break time say on a Friday where he could sell them? we did that for comic relief one year, many moons ago ( and I mean many moons lmao) He could design a poster, and put it up on the school gates etc if the headteacher gives the go ahead.. ? No outlay at all :j

Where did he sell the cakes?

Just wonder if he made biscuits (they could be savoury or sweet) if school would allow him to sell there. Just thinking biscuits are economical because you get a lot from mixture, plus easy to transport.

Is there anything you could do for halloween because that is not so far away?

    lots of luck

If you could organise a small event (such as halloween party) remember to ask the local paper to publicise. Ask the paper to publicise his sponsored walk. maybe see if any local businesses would sponsor him for a small amount. it would be cheap publicity for them!

    hello thanks for the reply.
he does have a just giving page, we set that up the other day, caleb haze is his name :)

hes excited about the walk, we just have to sort out a sponser form for him for the neighbours etc.

hes also decided he wants to organise a halloween party selling tickets to raise money :) i'm obviously helping him with some of the decisions etc but he has already started writing letters asking for a hall and dj donation etc, once we have a venue sorted hes going to write letters to shops for food and raffle prize donation.
he said he wants to have a fancy dress comp but the winner must have a trophy lol. i am obviously helping with the wording of hios letters but he is definatly hand writing them himself, im going to scan some and add them to his just giving page :)

i'm so proud of him, its funny if you ask him why he wants to raise money he says he doesnt know (his fav answer to everything) but if you ask him what save the children does and what the money raised is for he will tell you. he will also then tell you he wants to help because they have no food....hes a big eater loves food so finds it hard when he realises that other people dont get any
  • well my amazing little boy walked the 7 miles in 3 and half hours, he has so far raised £153 with more sponsors coming on, im a so very proud of him he done really well.
i think it has spurred him on to raise more, hes now organising a halloween party (with a little help from mum) on 30th october selling tickets for £2. hes just seeing if he can get somne raffle prizes donated too

Many thanks, yes that is the one and I am very pleased to his first donation on Just giving. I think its lovely that such a young child wants to do this.

Would also like to share a story here, when I was about 4 or 5 I remember faithfully collecting pennys from anyone who would give them to me for our Sunday School project for Africa. The Nuns used to say bring your pennys for little Black babies. and I honestly thought if I got enough they would send me one.

thank you so much, his little face lit up when he realised someone had sponsored him. he's obsessed with the peanut butter (for malnourished children) and mosquito nets. he knows the money does get used for other things but he seems most concerened that the children be fed :) (he eats alot and often lol)
so again thank you for helping him help others.
