First "make up" for eleven year old

  • Barry M stuff is very good, and Collection 2000 is better than you would think for the money.

Plus Bourgeois does lovely glosses that last very well.

Mascara isn't as easy to put on, so unless it has specifically been requested, I'd leave it out.

Oh, and I would add in a bottle of baby lotion and cotton pads for gentle make up removal.

Anyone that is on the thread to pass judgement upon the OP or the kids concerned should note that this isn't discussion time, so the rights and wrongs of wearing makeup is not up for debate.

I can only presume that's aimed at me and I make no apology for saying what I did. I'm not passing judgement she wanted advice on what make-up to get and I said none as the child is too young.

  • Different questions:

    1. SHOULD I buy makeup?

    or

    2. WHAT makeup is best?

One is inviting your criticism - and that of others on the thread, so don't get too precious - and one certainly isn't.

    I've been Money Tipped!
Sorry if his has been covered, but I have been asked to buy "make up" for my niece's eleventh birthday as she covets her older sister's make up.

SIL, sensibly, would like it to be kept very low key and it will be worn for meals out/parties only. We are talking natural lip gloss, clear mascara etc.

I am thinking Body Shop. Does anyone here have any other recommendations?

If you go for a clear mascara and some lipgloss, what about the rest being very gentle skin care stuff? I have a family friend whose children were given moisturiser from a very young age to encourage then to develop a good ''regime'' which woud stay with them forever. so very light moisturiser and very gentle face wash perhaps? Looking good isn't just about cosmetics, but taking care of what you have.

if the little girl wants make-up to stop her raiding her sister's stash, I dont think skincare products are going to cut it ;). Good idea for a teenager though.

I think skincare is good for an 11 year old, some of them are developed or developing and have skin that needs taking care of properly. They arent all little girls at 11!

no, and that's why i suggested it along side the clear gloss etc suggested in OP. As in all areas, you iv a little fun and you give the opportuity to be respinsible about it...

personally, in our family pink sparkly nail polishes have also always been popular. The rule is NEVER at school or at ''proper gatherings''. My nieces always prefered adult brands een as tinies, which we were fine with..they also liked the nailvarnishes I'd gone off ;)

my DD is the same with nail polish :) - but I'm a huge nail polish fiend, so she always has loads of colours to choose from. She does buy her own in one of her favourite shops, they sell metallic and neon colours.

Bl**dy hell! I was a regular red lipstick and green-shimmer user at aged 8, going on 16 (just used felt-tip pen when my mum took my lipstick away lol), but foundation at that age??!

Yeah, all through school. Didn't need it but i guess it made us feel grown up.

I can whole heartedly recommend Barry M and Stargazer nail stuff. They are both low cost and the coverage is very smooth and durable. And the Stargazer glitters are excellent.

(I/We have approximately 55 bottles on the go presently, of many brands, cheap and expensive - and the above are my favourites (Rimmel is generally pants, IMO))

Oh, and make sure you get them into the habit of always having a strengthening base coat on, as well as a top coat to keep it fresh looking for longer. Means it comes off for school more easily as well. :) Although there are no regulations at DD's school regarding painted toenails, as they aren't seen at all.
