  • Yeah, I'm getting married April or May next year. I know they say it takes 6 months or even more, but I'm not going to be rushed. If the shop don't have it I'll just ring around, or even go down the route of getting it made. I can already imagine the look of disapproval and horror on the faces of the bridal shop ladies :)

I've loved all those gowns you've linked to.

Is your wedding spring 2012? The dress shop ladies told me that it takes 6 months for dresses to come in and then allow 2 months for alterations. Sounds like scare tactics to me but just letting you know what they said! :) dress shopping is so much fun, I swear, and is giving mega motivation to lose weight!!! Also, I'm so busy (and buzzing) right now that i have less time to eat! :D
  • That Grace Kelly dress by Maggie Sottero is beautiful. I was originally looking at simple chiffon dresses, but there are so many beautiful lace dresses around at the moment.

I went for a Grecian style dress with some lovely beading on it (would say more but know OH has been known to look on here! heehee). I love it and my mum cried when she saw me in it :)

If you like Grace Kelly, Maggie Sottero does a lovely dress called Grace Kelly (don't think I can post links yet as I am too new) that might be worth looking at. I tried a few Maggie dresses on and they are beautifully made with brilliant support.

I am also seriously considering getting mine made, I just don't know who to go to!!! Any tips? Where would you source the fabric?

This dress was made by the bride's mother, and I absolutely adore it:

I just love lace, always have done! I like chiffon as well - anything but taffeta or satin!!! I don't want anything too gaudy and NO ruffles!!! :rotfl:

  • If I needed to, I'd use someone on ebay to make a copy of one I'd tried on and liked. I can't justify paying over £1000 on a dress - I've been reading these boards too long for that :rotfl:

Mind you, I'll probably just succumb and pay whatever it takes if it's The One.

  • Find a local dressmaker!! They'll source the fabric for you, and are often cheaper than designer dresses.

Unless you know someone who would be willing to make it for you - in which case, local fabric shops, fabric markets (there's a good one in Birmingham which I'm going to for my fabric) or ebay are good places.

  • Oh, and the dress in that blog is stunning - it suits her so well.

Is that the sort of style you're thinking of, wanchai?

  • Oh, I meant to say - I've been using pinterest.com to collect together different images I've come across online. It's like an online mood board. You can store images you like all on the same page and it saves a link to the original website which you can refer back to. I've found it really handy to collect together ideas on possible themes. It'd be great for you to store possible dresses, different decoration ideas, invite ideas etc.
The only problem is that it's open to anyone to view. You can only log in with a facebook or twitter account, so I created a brand new twitter account just to log in and keep it separate from my Facebook account. I don't want all my friends on FB seeing my wedding ideas. For greater privacy, you don't need to give your proper name when you actually register on pinterest.
I think it's going to come in handy.
  • Ooh, I use pinterest as well! Isn't it brilliant? I've got all my boards sort of compartmentalised at the moment (outfits, flowers, general design, etc), but at some point I want to combine all my wedding-related stuff into one board to get an overall picture. I'll leave out anything related to my outfit though, so that my H2B can see it!
