  • OMG somewhere like that would be beautiful, I've had some idea's although there is no accommodation, and it may not be in your locality - however thats were I think we in N.I are lucky, nothing is ever too far away! :)

    Markethill

    COagh

Are the first two that spring to mind - where is your Church, I think you mentioned Parkanuar which is only 15 mins away from me in Armagh so I might not be too far away to know some places. At the moment I'm remembering all the places I considered

OMG. Sounds scary!!! Although it's mainly a cost issue for us - if we could afford it, we would go for the marquee/tipi option. :o How much did your wedding reception work out at, per head? If you don't mind me asking.
I've dropped you a PM on the costs.

That venue and dress look stunning :)

I tried on the Monsoon (eBay) dress and it is FAB!!!!!!!!!!!!! Really gorgeous lace and it falls beautifully.:beer::beer::beer::beer::beer::beer:

Honestly, I love it. The only thing is that it's a bit low at the front but I can get a 'modesty' piece of fabric sewn on. It is amazing for £100, really. I will still go dress shopping but will keep it as a back up. :):):):):):):) I've also just bought a cathedral length veil on eBay for £40! :D Can't wait to see how it looks. Bet they don't match lol.

Can't say where the church is (sorry) but it's almost an hour from Dungannon in the direction of Fermanagh :) Not too fussed on the steakhouse and the place in Coagh is a little too far, but thanks a mill for the recommendations. :)

  • Look there are some great bargains for weddings you can have a look for ideas as well and purchasing pressie and other great things for the wedding. I went shopping online for many things I chose things and then see if there was some way I could do it myself and if not get a family member or friend to help out. Everyone I ask said yes and all of them felt it an honour to help out. Always ask and give them the option to say no you'll be very surprised at the results.

Good luck with it all and I hope you have a really wonderful day!

Thanks very much, will try to call in some favours if at all possible. :) I am actually getting a bit scared and nervous after actually trying on a dress.

    Hello all

We are recently engaged and starting to plan our wedding for summer 2012 (date TBC). I am very excited but also astounded at the cost of everything!! :rotfl:

We would like to save money wherever possible but still have a lovely intimate wedding with good food, drink and entertainment. We love vintage and retro styles and shabby chic, so hope to incorporate this into the wedding. I would be eternally grateful for any suggestions whatsoever from you lovely people and will be reading this forum avidly from now on!

OK, so here is our budget:

    Reception for 100 guests: £5,000 (o.m.g.)

Photographer: £1,500 (not very MSE at all, but I really want the best possible photos) I know an awesome photographer that specalisies in vintage / unusual weddings, they are a fraction of this price. Did three of my friends weddings last year. http://assassynation.co.uk/

    Videographer: £300

    Wedding dress: £700 (hopefully less!)

    My shoes and accessories: £200

    Bridesmaid's dress and shoes: £120

Suit for OH: £250 (just a normal suit, not a 'wedding' suit - his best man already has a really good suit in the same colour)

Band: £700 (actual quote - think this is quite good, they are a swing band playing for 2 hours)

DJ: £200 or free (iPod and speakers possibly?)

Car: free (getting a friend to drive us)

Cake: free (my very talented friend is making it)

    Church/organist: £200

Singers in church: free (two female relatives of mine)

Gifts for bridesmaid, best man and mothers: £100

    Decorating the venue: £120

    Flowers: £300

I know the flowers budget is probably ridiculously low but we are being optimistic! We need 2 bouquets and about 4 buttonholes - the rest we are going to decide on depending on cost. We may use dried lavender and gyp, or garden flowers for the tables. For the church, we might do the same, with gauze ribbons on the pews.

For those who are doing favours for us, we will buy them gifts to say thank you, so that will add about £200 to the budget.

Total so far = £9,890 but I know that this is probably optimistic.

Any comments??? Have I missed something? Where can we save money? xx

i have added a suggestion to say you some money on the photographer
Debt free since July 2013! Woo hoo! The bank actually laughed when I said I have come in to cancel my overdraft.
  • Hi Wanchai,
I've just announced our engagement to the family at the weekend, so can finally start talking about weddings on here. Hope you don't mind me joining in :)

I think I know what venue you've chosen. Have you booked it? It looks lovely.

Like yourself, I was trawling the internet last week trying to find something a little quirky and different, but am starting to get frustrated as the prices of some places are extortinate, or they can't handle a group of 120 people. Once I choose the venue I feel that everything else will fall into place around it.

    Congrats on finding a dress

Yay, congrats shiv2001!!!! :j Of course you can join in! :D

Whereabouts are you from, and what area are you looking at for your wedding? Have you guessed our venue? I don't want to say the name on here, but PM me if you want to. :) We are 95% sure that we will go for it.

I know, that's the problem!!! All the quirky/pretty places can only hold up to 50/60 people! It is soooo hard to find anywhere, but let me know if you come up with any ideas/suggestions xxxx

I am still going to try on dresses, but the Monsoon one will be my fallback dress in case i don't find anything nicer. :)
