Hi Ladies,
Sorry to say that 2,000 is probably about right for lace and silk. I am having a lace dress made by a lovely local dressmaker, but to keep costs down she is using a plain vintage dress as the base and customising it with lace all over. This saves on the labour of actually constructing the dress and keeps the cost down so it should come in under 1k. She told me that if she was to make it from scratch it would be closer to 1.5-2k so your quote was probably about right. Lace is really expensive right now!
Is there someone in your area who can customise a vintage dress? Worth looking into I think

I just got the name of a dressmaker near me, spoke to her and will show her the blog pics! She thinks that it can be made before July! Whoop! :jsugarwalsh wrote: »Wanchai - when I went into my wedding shop there was a dress similar to the one you like on the blog - I think it was this one -

I love Bella's dress; it's very similar in shape to mine, although mine doesn't have sleeves and the back is different. Not sure how I feel about that given that I am emphatically not a Twilight fan!!
Great news about the dressmaker wanchai - let us know how it goes!!

I emailed her the blog link, she loves the dress and wants to meet for a chat!

I am just worried about the cost; please don't let it be super expensive... 7 Feb 2012: 10st7lbs

Hi Wanchai -i'm a fellow July bride from the other forum, can i put my two pence in?!!!!! - Have you thought of asking WXY on the other forum. She is making her own wedding dress and has a blog spot sheposts on to with photos of how it is coming together. I am sure she could advise you as to how many hours work a dress is and also the costs of fabrics etc. That will give you a heads up as to how much having cost is involved in making the dress.
Good luck with the seamstress, keep us posted!
Your dress dilemma has kept me entertained and amused for a while now, I feel lucky to have walked in to a bridal shop and said i would like non bridal, grecian style to fit a fatty and then came out with a completly different dress altogether. It couldn't be anymore bridal!!!0
