so the thinkpad is the general feel that is what the father in law should go for, i'll check he doesnt need fax modem or bluetooth.
thanksListen to what people say, but watch what people what people do!!0 -
as a general rule, the majority of newer laptops are, as hammy quite rightly pointed out, bl00dy flimsy when compared to either business-grade or even slightly older consumer models. For example, I've replaced screens recently on under a year-old machines that have such flimsy plastics that once taken apart to swap the screens, they just would not fit back together properly due to the clips around the bezel being made of plastic the consistency of damp cheese

Compare this to the build quality of Thinkpad T- and the later X-series, which you can take apart and put back together time and time again if needs be (not that it's likely you will ever need to, of course) and you'll understand where Hammy's coming from
And as for not wanting XP Pro and a 80GB hdd, why on earth not?? XP = good, and 80GB ?? My main desktop is 6 yrs old with an 80GB hdd, and it's still only half-full. What's a 10-y-o going to fill it up with that quick ?? Bear in mind XP only takes 6-8 GB of disk space......
Seriously, are you old guys still pushing that stuff?
We know that the cases are built well, but the components are often old and outdated and warranties long gone.
Why all the conjecture? Just post some links so that we can decide for ourselves?
I'm not knocking the quality, but let's see a suitable machine for the posters.0 -
^^^ who you calling old ?? I'm still under 45......But been around enough to know good quality when I see/touch it
......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple
