Presents the night before

I wouldn't have given him the present the night before, though I can see why you did.
I hadn't really thought about it, as my son is only 18 weeks old, but for my son's birthday he will wait until the evening then his dad can watch him opening his presents.
His dad gets up really early in the morning for work, so we couldn't open presents in the morning, unless it fell on a weekend. My boy was born on a Friday, so am guessing his first two birthdays will be on a weekend, so that will be fine, we can watch him open them together in the morning.
TBH when he's school age, he'll most likely be at school on his birthday, so would have to wait anyway. I dunno really, maybe could open cards in the morning. He can then look forward to the evening of presents.
I seem to remember opening presents of an evening, along with a birthday cake with candles to blow out... or is that tradition done with now?
Oh, and OP, what is your signature all about?
Not much fun for him waiting to charge it is it?

Oh, just charging it. OK.0 -
It's not a pop at you Kimberly, but a question in general, if it's appropriate (i.e not a school day) do people not book the day off as a holiday? We have a no-work rule for all our birthdays here (although The Boy is only 2)
*snippped*
I don't do this for either of mine because DS's birthday is 19th December so falls into the 2 week annual leave ban. I don't do it for DD either because I just request the night before and that night off. I've been lucky so far that I've never been rostered to work the night of the 18/19th December but it might come that I get it one year. I'd be really upset if I did but would do my best to swap it.
One year I did have to work the night before and the night of DH's birthday. I felt so bad that he was sitting on his own that night and that I was so tired. Generally we go out for his works Christmas do on his birthday though so that's nice. Very posh restaurant, no bill and a lovely evening. His boss often asks if he wants it booked that night or a different night but he likes it because it's a nice treat!
I remember when I was small (about 8 or 9) my mum worked 3 jobs and was a single parent. She woke me up at about 4am on the morning of my birthday to say happy birthday because my sister and I were going to be alone and wouldn't see her until the following day. I didn't open my present then but that was because I didn't get one that year. There wasn't any money for one. My Aunty always used to send a box of little gifts though. All wrapped separately. Not high cost but we loved it. It must have cost a fortune to post to us. It never got to me on time though because she always got my birthday wrong :rotfl: every year without fail!
One year, I got a box of 6 cream eggs for my main present, do you remember when they used to come in the plastic egg box like normal hen eggs? That was when I was 6. Can't actually remember any of my other birthday presents. Do remember that when we were living with my Aunty, birthdays were the evening when you got to choose tea. We all used to choose fondue! Mmmmmmmmmmmm nom nom nom
