NUS rip off - Student does NOT equal under 26

Odeon Cinema 4 times a year = £5ish.
JJB Trainers £40 = £4.
Pizza Hut 1 time £30 = £6.
ASOS £40 = £8.
Staples £15 a year = £1.50
Already £24.50 and that's a pretty basic lifestyle.
So you save 13.50 in a year. But here's a tip: you can get some of those discounts through online voucher codes anyway.
If you went to a local pizza place instead of Pizza Hut you'd most certainly end up spending much less than 30 minus the discount. Most local places have much better value for money. You can probably get away with 10 quid with drinks etc.0 -

Or if you're on Orange you get Orange Wednesdays (2 for 1 I think).
If you mainly use the NUS card for online shopping you may as well use voucher codes which you don't have to pay for. It really comes down to how big a spender you are and WHERE you spend your money.0 -
So don't buy an NUS card. Student discounts are not a right, they're a business proposal to encourage more young people to use their brands.0

I'm a student member of a county cricket club - this requires an NUS card and saves me £80 a year. This is now the only reason I have one! - I do buy bits and pieces in topshop etc, but probably only saving as much as the card costs in the first place so if it wasn't for the cricket, I wouldn't bother.Excuse any mis-spelt replies, there's probably a cat sat on the keyboard0

I had an NUS card because it was free from Lloyds bank for student accounts.
The only things I liked it for were:
1. Superdrug
2. Amazon, but never managed to get a discount so useless
For almost everywhere else, I just show my normal university ID card and get a discount e.g. Topshop, cinemas etc
I buy a lot on ASOS, but I wait for the 10% and 20% codes that come every now and again.
I don't see the point of the NUS card. It seems to be marginally better than a standard student ID card.
Also, some shops only offer student discount on full priced items, which I rarely buy anyway.0 -

Exactly my point. Not worth the £11, unless you're a massive spender. I'm not getting one this year anyway.0 -

Exactly. They try to steer you into opting for certain deals just because you get a discount when there might be other companies offering better deals. E.g. 3, they give u a NUS discount on one of their 24 month contracts but 2 years is not a massively good deal seeing as you might want to switch providers within that time.
ODEON actually works out more expensive with the NUS discount than Bargain Tuesdays in Cineworld or Orange Wednesdays. Fair enough, some people would pay extra to go at the weekend but it's their money:-)0 -
5% at amazon. Make sure you get the code from the NUS site. Blooming excellent.0

Does the NUS card get you a discount at Dell? Their website says yes but the link is broken so I am not sure.0
