You get £1.50 off a ticket? How often do you go to the movies though? The more you spend, the more you save, i.e. if you're not a big spender (or if you'd rather spend your money in some of the shops that don't currently offer any discounts), it really doesn't seem like a good deal. Just saying.0 -
I'm of the stance it is a waste of money. Obviously, different areas might have more discounts places than from me.
Buying online at Topman et al, a fake NUS number does the job or you can find a code that does the job.0 -
You must spend a lot of time shopping for clothes then?
I love clothes and shoes,100 quid doesn't go far in most clothes shops and if I get between 10% and 20% off each transaction that suits me just fineIt's easy to recoup the amount you've spent on the NUS Extra card.
And I've just discovered Asos do 20% discount woohoo!:DIf women are birds and freedom is flight are trapped women Dodos?0 -
I love my NUS card, its paid for itself several times over in clothes discount, food, cinema, ice skating, travel etc. £11 is hardly breaking the bank. I go to the cinema at least once a month, buy new clothes fairly often, and enjoy eating out. I budget on food spending, utility bills etc so I can do things, but i'd still do these things even if I didn't have my NUS. I may as well save some money on the way.2011 Wins : Models own makeup product, Photoplusx4 software:j Mens hair dye :rotfl:0

Odeon Cinema 4 times a year = £5ish.
JJB Trainers £40 = £4.
Pizza Hut 1 time £30 = £6.
ASOS £40 = £8.
Staples £15 a year = £1.50
Already £24.50 and that's a pretty basic lifestyle.0 -
Like what? Free fries when you buy a big mac? Sweet, except I don't eat in McDo very often...
Google voucher codes, they usually have better offers, plus they're open to everyone.
Online shops such as ASOS and Topman.
Also is anyone able to inform me if you purchase an NUS Extra card is the card number sent to you via email so you can start using your student code online immediately or do you have to pick up the card from your SU before you can use online?0 -

I assume you're not studying maths. YOU ADD ALL THE DISCOUNTS TOGETHER.
Before I had my son, I worked full time, studied part time and found time to go to the cinema/theatre probably every 4-6 weeks. Now a student with 15 or 16 hours of lectures a week should be able to manage quite a lot more than that.
I wouldn't go out of my way to shop in NUS friendly shops, but I bought things from superdrug, got a free printer (£75 ish) and at least £100 off my Macbook Pro plus 3 years warranty for free (£99), had money off my dry cleaning, stationery, some clothes.........
So it cost me something like £52 for 5 years, and I saved probably around £600 in that time.
Now if you look at the top of this site, there's a banner that says "money saving expert"................... If you can pay less for stuff, why on earth wouldn't you?Science adjusts its views based on what's observed.

How much money do you spend on clothes, books etc in a year? You really must be a massive spender. None of my preferred clothing stores offer any discounts (Cult? H&M? TK Maxx? Primark?), even if they did I would get like £2 off a £20 shirt at most. How many shirts/books/cds do I buy in a year though? You do the maths.
Lets do some maths then. I dont spent a huge amount, I had to buy some smart clothes for my work placement in Matalan which came in at £50 - £5 off instantly with my NUS card. I might go to the cinema next week - thats £1.50 or £2.00 (depending on which showing I attend) saving on a regular ticket.
I need to get some items from Superdrug, thats £2 saved there.
5% off the book I need for my course from Amazon that can't be borrowed as i'll be using it all year and it needs to be dated this year for up to date H&S regs - another £1.50.
Thats £10.50 saved in 2 weeks and im nowhere near a massive spender, I would have saved the cost of the card by the end of this month and then be saving loads over the next 11 :money:
TK Maxx and Primark already offer stuff at rock bottom prices and Primark dont even offer their staff a discount. Cult stock Superdry and you can get a student discount on Superdry stuff on ASOS.
New Look is taking on H&M with similar clothing items and offer 10% discount all year.0 -
i love my NUS card too. I could spent £100 on ASOS easily currently it 20% off falling to 10% soon. Cinema 3-4 time a year, 10% off at matalan and new look plus amazon/play discount plus i did christmas shopping in superdrug plus megabus. I reckon i saved over £100 last year.MF aim 10th December 2020 :j:eek:MFW 2012 no86 OP 0/20000

Trying to work out whether its going to be worth it for me, as I get some discounts already with my Student Id tag and for the cinema as I've got disabilites I get a carer free so we just split the cost of a ticket whenever we go...0
