NUS rip off - Student does NOT equal under 26

Options
It seems to me the ISIC/NUS Extra card is worth nada unless you're under 26. If you are, chances are you'll get a discount anyway. If you're over 26, chances are you won't get a discount even with your NUS card as most discounts seem to be 'youth' discounts rather than 'student' discounts.
Say Eurolines for instance, they offer a youth (under 26) discount but not a student discount. Same goes for interrail.com. Their discounts are based on age and not on student status (which is stupid as you don't exactly get a bigger student loan the day you turn 26).

In my experience the NUS card is a ripoff. So you save 5% on books and CDs in Amazon. That's 50p off a CD. Honestly, how much would you need to spend on books and CDs to even get the 13 quid you spent on the card itself back?

  • TBH I have come across a lot of discounts that are only valid for NUS Extra card holders and I should have got an NUS card last year.

So if you don't want your NUS card then please feel free to PM me the 18 digit card number as I could certainly make some use out of it!

Like what? Free fries when you buy a big mac? Sweet, except I don't eat in McDo very often...

Google voucher codes, they usually have better offers, plus they're open to everyone.
  • pizza hut only accept the nus

think it is worth something if you get the ISIC part and are looking to travel (but clearly not on interail as you state!)

I had a NUS card for 5 years, and I was over 26 for all of them. I found a huge amount of shops give discounts (10-20% in many cases) for it and it more than paid for itself every year.

Oh,and I'm almost 30 and will get loads out of it!

  • With my normal Uni card I get discount at Topman, Newlook, Republic, McDonalds. But with the NUS extra you get it at places likes Amazon, ASOS, Odeon cinema...

I dont go overseas so dont need the ISIC part. Its only costs £11 then and I save a small fortune with it. 10% or sometimes 20% in clothes and beauty shops, money off books, cheaper cinema tickets, many small shops give 10% off for NUS card holders if you ask, Megabus only accept NUS Extra for their student discount.

Its far from a rip off.

How much money do you spend on clothes, books etc in a year? You really must be a massive spender. None of my preferred clothing stores offer any discounts (Cult? H&M? TK Maxx? Primark?), even if they did I would get like £2 off a £20 shirt at most. How many shirts/books/cds do I buy in a year though? You do the maths.
