Industrial Workers Office Scamming

Just had them call today, insistent on speaking to 'er indoors, who as it happens was not.
My wife never gives out our land line and also does not use her first name so scammers tend to stick out, though we do get the odd official call that slips through the net.
When challenged on what it was about and pointing out we were on TPS the caller claimed it was not an unsolicited call and was not a sales call.
Phone number on caller display was 0203 519 03650 -
I read this whole thread and seen a lot of posts saying this is a scam, but has anyone actually been scammed out of any money ?
What is the scam?
Has anyone actually won any compensation from these people?
I'm due to go for a hearing test after being called by a company called the "national advice clinic".
They haven't asked for any money up front, and wouldn't get any if they did.The letter they send says that it's a no win no fee service, and they only take a small percentage of the compensation.
When I messaged them through their site asking what percentage they take I received no reply.
I'm now thinking I won't bother going.0 -

Called at 1:56pm.
1471 gave number as 01765 815160
Female called asking for o/h by name. She wasn't it so I asked who it was and was told national workers union phoning to ask what industry o/h had worked in as she could be due for an industrial payment under a govt scheme
I asked what company she represented and instead of restating the above was told it was a govt scheme and I asked what for and she said she couldn't tell me.
I put the phone down.
Did 1471 and called them back
Answered by someone claiming they were industrial workers office - I said that the name had changed and guess what he got all defensive saying it was a different company and that he'd never heard of the National Workers Union!
He didn't seem to want to accept that I had redialled the number that had called me so had to be either the same company, or at least a linked one. The guy said they were a market research company. He then said that they run "Locum I.D clinics" I asked him to explain what these clinics were as I didn't understand but suddenly someone took the phone off him and got even more shirty - I asked what company they were from and this guy refused to give me a company name at first then eventually said he was from Industrial Surveys and they are doing surveys on behalf of third party market research companies and he had never heard of national workers union and didn't know why someone on their number would say that.
I said that his colleague told me they were a market research company and he said we act on behalf of third parties using information from market research.
I told them I didn't want any more calls and hung up.
They are either
A) stone cold liars and manipulatorsrather thick and a bit stupid and stone cold liars
Either way I wouldn't want to have anything to do with them!0 -

Dear All, just had two calls within the space of 45 min which I believe to be from a private organisation called The National Workers Office.
The first one told me I was entitled to a free hearing test, but identified themselves as something like Clinic Advice Line or similar. They knew may name because they asked for me. I confirmed it was my name because I was expecting a call from a producer of programmes at our local Radio Station. However, they'd then got confirmation of my name and number. When I realised it was the a speculative call I immediately asked where they'd got my name / number from because I'm ex-directory and don't give out my personal details. I then told the caller to take my details off their list immediately. At which point they terminated the call.0 -

45 min later the phone rang again. My adult daughter answered the phone and confirmed she was my daughter. This time a different person identifying themselves as The National Workers Office, offered me a free allowance which I was entitled to and asked why I hadn't contacted them to receive it. I again asked where they'd got my details from and they declined to remove my details from their listings.
I asked whether they were a private organisation which they confirmed and who their directors were. Which they didn't know. I then asked for the name of their immediate supervisor. At this point a young man called 'John' came on the line. I told him to remove my details to which he refused.0 -

I then told him that I'm a retired Fraud Officer (which I am) and that there are ways to track down organisations like the one he works for. He thought this very amusing and asked if I'd send a SWAT team in to stop them. He appeared to be deliberately engaging me in conversation, so I asked him if it was a premium rate line and told him to ring off, which he refused to do. So I put the phone down.0 -
SINCE THEN: I've checked on the Company House website and found no such company registered. However, there does appear to be an organisation by this name at the following address: Unit 19 Blackburn Technology Management Centre Challenge Way, Blackburn, Lancashire BB1 5QB, Tel 01254 667294 and they appear to have a very professional but limited website0
