Industrial Workers Office Scamming

call today from 'the industrial hearing centre' , after a lot of questions from me I was able to ascertain the following;
They are after clients on behalf of others who pay them a finders fee. In my opinion they are little more than ambulance chasers.
They told me they had got my details from the Industrial Workers Register and that the register is available in any library. As I have been unable to verify the existence of such a register, I doubt it.
Even though the girl that called did not know; their phone number, the M.D's name or the office address (wonder how she got to work bless her!) the duty manager - called Max Ingham (wonder if that is gen too?) was able to tell me that the M.D is Charles Williams (yup it is a bit of a common name!) and that they are based in Bury.
They have no regard for the telephone preference service as, in their words they are selling nothing (Yeah Right!)
My future remedy will be the same as all the other invasions to my privacy get, a good blast from the acme thunderer that I keep by the phone.
one interesting slip they made was that they said I cant be on the preference service as my name is in the book?????OK so I act like him but my name aint Meldrew ]

HI
Just had yet another call which set me thinking "scam" A woman called to say she was from the Industrial Workers Organisation. As soon as she told me the name it sounded pretty bogus, She had my husbands mname and my name, with the initials too. She asked a few questions, obviously "fishing" for information. told her to go away as I wasn't interested in what ever it was she was on with. Lets face it No one will call you unless there is something in it for them. if I haven't asked for a call I useually just say, " not interested " and hang up. It is the best way.
Though I did manage to keep one of those microsoft computer virus scammer on the line for 15 minutes... at last when he said "what do you see on the screen" I told him that I saw a "big fat lieing scammer" He laughed and I called him a few choice prat words. before hanging up.... I felt great.0 -
Can I just ask a question? Is it possible to see if a number is withheld, before answering the phone? I seem to remember that there was a hand set that told you the callers number, just like on a mobile screen. It would solve the problem, as I just wouldn't answer it.0

Also had a call from the "Industrial Hearing Clinic" today, number withheld (Companies House has no company of that name listed, but according to a Google search, there's only one such institution, located in Bury, Lancs., and it's apparently part of the "Central Claims Group").
It started with fishing questions (quoting from memory, "Our records show that someone from this address has been working in industry. Does that ring any bells?"), then the caller became really unpleasant when I kept asking him exactly on whose behalf he was calling (he never told me) and made it plain that he was wasting his time. He ended the call by calling me a "f***ing weirdo".
That at least has never happended to me in any of the countless cold calls (in spite of being registered with the TPS) I had that sounded like they came from South Asia.0 -

You mean Caller ID? It's free with Sky but BT charge extra. We have Sky so get it anyway and it is useful, although these claims groups just show up as withheld.2012 wins:

We have had three of these calls in the past week. All the calls have had awful connections, I'm not sure if that was intentional, and again we are signed up with the TPS though from what I have read that is next to pointless.0

then compensation its a simple as that
Even from companies that swindled their workers out of their pensions and now no longer exist?
I have a hearing loss from working in a noisy environment, sign me up.0 -
Well, well, well!! where do i start with this tin pot company?
As a former employee, i have never worked for such idiots, we had to ring 'victims' from photocopied pages of the phonebook, told to tell the client the criteria had changed if they had already been for a hearing check, which it hasnt! Fellow employees were rude, but how do you expect them to be polite when the managers treat the staff like animals, They are the most bent people i have come across, they bully the staff, publicly humiliate them, if your face doesnt fit you have had it, but if it does, you can do as you please! even sell cannabis in the work place and not panic about the security of your job! low and behold they are on Panorama on monday night!
clients are tricked into thinking they will get a refund on travel costs if they dont drive, i lasted two weeks and never have i worked with such horrible people, i witnessed staff being sworn and shouted at, reduced to tears, humiliated, so maybe that is a factor as to why some of the above have been spoken to rudely! hardly good role models are they. that company needs shutting down.0 -
oh, nad when the customer asks if their details can be removed, that will never happen, they work from a piece of paper and a phone! no 'industrial workers database' or 'system' dont even think there is a computer in sight. They have changed their name again to 'industrial hearing clinic' but is or was central claims group, bury, lancashire.0
