  • Ok and if we are talking inconvenience/ charges and so on. If you make a claim and get something back please let me know!. I would be keen to have some of my overdraft charges back from over the years ! :-)

The bank account in overdraft is HSBC not Halifax.

I have used the faster payments system every month for the last 6 months and had the money within less than a minute. This is the only month when I have actually needed the money on the same day.

As for the warning being on the site all week, we haven't had any reason to use the site in the past few weeks so how could we have seen it? Why on earth didn't they send letters or emails? If we were pre-warned we could have done something about it, as it is there are hundreds of pounds sitting in one bank account and another overdrawn!

So go to a Halifax branch withdraw the cash and pay it into your HSBC account.

I've been seeing a message online all week to pre-warn me about it? Strange that you didn't see it too?

Thats only if you log in beforehand, not everyone logs into thier online banking regular and Halifax should not presume so. I think they should have informed people by post too and possibly email.

I had to check a tick box to say I had read the pre warning message so if you hadnt read it before the date and not ticked the box you might be able to get something, just so long as they agree you didnt get the message
    Thanx

Agree that an email would have been relatively cheap and would have been useful to many people.

The message on the login screen has only been there for a few days.
  • Emailing customers about the downtime probably wouldn't be the best idea. The day after the online message appeared, I received an email from 'Halifax' about the situation and they kindly offered to upgrade my online sooner by clicking on a link. Clearly a blatant phishing attempt. Many customers ignore emails, whether they're genuine or not.

Halifax are aware there will be a surge of complaints on the back of this so if HSBC can't do anything for you to avoid the charges, like increase your overdraft, then get your partner to register a complaint and see what they'll do for you.
  • they seem happy enough to send me emails now and then asking me to take out a cc etc. so they should have emailed this too I think

Will be for BOS and HFX, haven't had the rate communicated yet, will check again tomorrow for you.

Did you manage to find out what the interest rate for the Internet Saver will be, please?

Also, does anyone know what will be happening to existing savings accounts (e.g. people in the middle of a "variable" 12 month reward period)?

I did ask my friend who works in a branch, but as usual his answers were sketchy as he probably didn't read/listen to the information fully!!

Very honourable of you :). Considering Halifax Savings 'phone line closes at 5pm on a Sunday, and their online service isn't available until tomorrow, I can't see why they can't let anyone know what it's going to be rolleyes.gif. Can't understand all the cloak and dagger.
